Forks & Hope presents THE ART BOX

By: Jun. 07, 2017
The Forks & Hope Ensemble is pleased to announce The Art Box, a series of three new work development workshops this summer as a resident company at Hairpin Arts Center in Logan Square. "This year, Forks & Hope has committed to thoughtfully generating new material. We are laying the groundwork for future productions while pushing our artistic boundaries," says Artistic Director Aileen McGroddy. "The Forks & Hope process requires that we play with material to discover its unique theatrical language, and The Art Box allows us to do just that."

On July 7th, Forks & Hope will kick-off their summer series with the Art Box Series Launch Party, a fundraiser gala in which the ensemble will introduce guests to their new performance space.

Opening the series is The Exploration of Sound, conceived and co-directed by Aileen McGroddy and Austin D. Oie. This piece will define what music is in the context of the artist's work, breaking down the walls that sometimes inhibit one from full exploration. A workshop performance is scheduled for July 23rd.

Next up is Gulliver's Travels, adapted and directed by Aileen McGroddy. This adaptation of Jonathan Swift's classic tale will reveal contrasting human weaknesses on a societal scale, making it a story worth telling now. A workshop performance is scheduled for August 10th.

Closing out the series is In Brautigan's Sugar, written by Andrew Bailes and directed by Aileen McGroddy. This performance art piece is a meta, magical-realistic interpretation of Richard Brautigan's In Watermelon Sugar. A workshop performance is scheduled for August 31st.
