Cannabis! A Viper Vaudeville - Live Preview + Dance Party at Nublu

Cannabis! A Viper Vaudeville is an interdisciplinary theatrical concert created by Baba Israel and Grace Galu that explores the history of cannabis through music, dance, and spoken word, tracing it as a thread running through American history and social justice movements. The work moves through a century of resistance, immersing audiences in the stories of historic activists and the music of their eras, from Congo Square and the jazz age to the '60s and hip-hop traditions. The April 27 live preview at Nublu features Baba Israel as the Mystical Magical MC, Grace Galu as Sativa Diva, and Duv as Hipster Trickster, with the full band, DJ Rickman, and multi-platinum producer Siba, followed by a DJ set, dance party, and cypher. The full 2022 La MaMa production, featuring environment design by Nic Benacerraf, projections by David Bengali, and costumes by Kate Fry, will be screened for the first time at Cinema Village on May 4.
