Gleefan.com recently sat down with songwriter Kerry Muzzey, the composer who wrote the love theme "Looking Back" that was heard several times throughout the first half of GLEE's first season. "Looking Back" was played during romantic scenes between Emma and Will as well as in scenes between Rachel and Finn.

Muzzey elaborated on his involvement with GLEE and how his work ended up on the show. He explained that "Looking Back" had been chosen to appear on the pilot episode of the show after receiving a call from GLEE music supervisor PJ Bloom. Muzzey told Gleefan.com, "I asked PJ how 'Looking Back' ended up in the edit in the first place, and he said that Ryan Murphy was a fan - and that's actually when I started screaming. I remember saying, "Are you f-ing kidding me? Ryan Murphy is a fan of MINE!??" But I can't remember much after that... I think I blacked out or something. It was complete overwhelm: it was like getting that magical phone call that you've waited for your entire career. Poor PJ... I probably did permanent damage to his hearing with that call."

Muzzey also told Gleefan.com that his relationship with GLEE is open ended and that GLEE is able to use "Looking Back" for at least the rest of season one.

Recent winner of the People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy and Golden Globe winner for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical, GLEE, the new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High's Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential.

The show, which also garnered Golden Globe recognition, stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz.

Due to the success of the first installment of the show, which aired last on December 9, FOX has already ordered a second season of the show and announced that it will soon be launching a nationwide search to cast three new roles, which will be documented on the network in the multi-part special. These newest additions will make their debut on the second season premiere.

GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer. GLEE returns to Fox on Tuesdays at 9pm EST on April 13, 2010.
