MSNBC Bests CNN in Primetime in September

MSNBC topped CNN in primetime total viewers (615,000 vs. CNN's 531,000) for the month of September and 3Q (647,000 vs. CNN's 578,000) according to data from Nielsen. 3.6 million viewers tuned-in throughout the course of MSNBC's coverage of THE GLOBAL CITIZEN FESTIVAL which aired on September 27 from 3-10 p.m. ET.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" from 6-9 a.m. ET, "Hardball" with Chris Matthews at 7 p.m. ET, "The Rachel Maddow Show" at 9 p.m. ET and "The Last Word" with Lawrence O'Donnell at 10 p.m. ET all ranked #2 in total viewers for the month.

"Morning Joe" ranked #2 among total viewers for the month with 363,000 (vs. CNN's 340,000). "Hardball" ranked #2 among total viewers for the month with 690,000 (vs. CNN's 550,000) and 3Q with 693,000 (vs. CNN's 567,000). "The Rachel Maddow Show" was #2 in total viewers with 783,000 total viewers (CNN had 529,000) and 3Q with 798,000 (vs. CNN's 580,000). "The Last Word" ranked #2 among total viewers with 569,000 (vs. CNN's 459,000) and 3Q 635,000 (vs. CNN's 520,000).

MSNBC also ranked #1 in Weekend Sales Prime (M-Su 7p-2a) among A25-54 for the 17th straight month.

MSNBC continued as the most diverse cable news network. In weekday primetime (M-F 8p-11p), MSNBC ranked #1 in African-American audiences for total viewers for the month. MSNBC ranked #1 among African-American total viewers for the 56th consecutive month in M-Su Sales primetime.
