HBO to Pay Tribute to SOPRANOS James Gandolfini in Special Presentation, 12/22

Variety reports that HBO will honor 'Sopranos' star James Gandolfini in a special presentation entitled, "James Gandolfini: Tribute to a Friend." According to the cable network, the special presentation will feature more than two dozen friends and colleagues remembering the three-time Emmy(R) winner, who died June 19, 2013 at age 51. Along with first-person reflections, the special features clips of Gandolfini's work, as well as behind-the-scenes footage. The show airs Sunday, Dec. 22, at 8:30 PM ET.

Gandolfinin died of a heart attack on June 13th in Italy at the age of 51. He was in that country to appear at the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, where he was set to join director Gabriele Muccino for a festival event.

Though best known for his iconic portrayal of 'Tony Soprano' beginning in 1999, a role for which he won three Emmy Awards, the actor had a successful career on the Broadway stage, most recently starring in God of Carnage for which he was Tony-nominated in 2009. He reprised the role in 2011 in Los Angeles. He also appeared in On the Waterfront and made his Broadway debut with Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin in A Streetcar Named Desire.
