SNL alum Andy Samberg has signed on to lead a currently untitled comedy pilot for the FOX network from Universal TV. The Parks and Recreation writing team of Mike Schur and Dan Goor will pen the single camera comedy.

The project will follow rag-tag group of detectives and officers who work in a precinct on The Edge of New York City. Samberg, who will also produce the pilot, will take on the role of the lead detective.

Schur and Goor commented, "Andy's hilarious, and he was the first guy we thought of when we designed the part. From the moment we mentioned his name, everyone at Universal Television and FOX was 100% on-board. Andy Loved the pitch, and it all came together really quickly. We couldn't be happier."

Samberg is best known for his seven-year run on NBC's Saturday night sketch comedy. He is credited with bringing the show into the digital age by creating such viral digital shorts, as "D*** In A Box," featuring Justin Timberlake. Both entertainers earned an Emmy award for that performance.

The comedian is currently starring on the hit BBC Three sitcom Cuckoo, playing "an idle young American who marries a British girl and comes into conflict with his wife's overprotective father (Greg Davies)." He also has a voiceover in the recently released animated film Hotel Transylvania.
