Telemundo's sports division has obtained the first global exclusive with the newly elected president of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, and will be airing it in two parts this weekend on "Titulares Telemundo," tonight, April 2, and Sunday, April 3 at 11 PM Eastern time or following local newscasts. The complete interview will also be available on NBC Deportes digital platforms after Titulares Telemundo's Sunday broadcast.
Infantino sat down to talk with legendary sportscaster Andrés Cantor in Asunción, Paraguay. In the interview, FIFA's new president described himself as having a close relationship with the sport's players and committed to restoring fans' trust in soccer's governing body. Infantino pledged to "start a new era at FIFA; soccer can save soccer," he maintained. Among the issues he addressed in the interview, Infantino discussed how technology can help referees and went into detail about FIFA's finances, including his plans for spending the organization's more than $1.5 billion budget. He was firm in his position on the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and recognized the current and future role of the United States in global soccer, commenting on the possibility of a US or joint US-Mexico World Cup in 2026. Infantino also responded to questions about FIFA's plans to have its regional associations include 40 national teams in future editions of the World Cup and his reasons for encouraging this shift.Videos
