Alphonso Van Marsh has been named a Correspondent for News Services at CBS News, the Network's 24-hour television newsgathering service for CBS stations and broadcasters around the world. He will be based in London, and his appointment is effective immediately.

Previously, Marsh spent a decade reporting for CNN, where his assignments took him around the globe. As a war correspondent embedded in Iraq and Afghanistan, his work was featured on all of CNN's platforms. Marsh broke the story of Saddam Hussein's historic Capture in Iraq, earning him a 2004 National Headliner Award. After that, he was a war zone and general assignment reporter in London. Before that, he was a Correspondent and Bureau Operations Director, reporting from Europe, Africa, The Middle East and the Asian subcontinent.

Following CNN, Marsh served as a Freelance Multimedia Correspondent in Cairo, Egypt, covering the Israeli/Palestinian conflict for NBC News. Marsh assisted with a pilot project that brought Thomson-Reuters' service "News Video Online" to Egypt. As the project's Media Trainer, he recruited and trained writers, producers and editors to follow international journalism standards. As a result, the service was outsourced successfully to Video Cairo, an Egyptian media production conglomerate.

In addition, Marsh has more than a dozen years of experience in investigative and documentary production. He was narrator for the award-winning documentary "The Anti Bin Laden," a field producer for PBS Frontline/World's "Egypt: Middle East, Inc.," and a CNN field producer for the CINE Golden Eagle award winning "Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling," where he secured the exclusive interview with disabled former pro wrestler Tom "The Dynamite Kid" Billington. He also served as correspondent and producer for CNN's MarketPlace Middle East program, where his "Jewels of the Nile" story earned the New York Association of Black Journalists' Business Reporting Award in 2009.

Marsh began his broadcasting career in 1994 as a Correspondent for Northwestern University's Medill News Service in Washington, D.C., filing stories for KEZI-TV in Eugene, Ore., and WHO-AM in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Science in Journalism degree from Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism in 1994.
