BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE to Screen in 4DX at Edinburgh Film Festival 2026

Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced that BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE, the first-person action thriller from Chee Keong Cheung, will open the Festival's Midnight Madness strand with its World Premiere before receiving a 4DX screening at Cineworld Fountainbridge, a format rarely used at UK film festivals. The film stars John Hannah and Radha Mitchell and follows a man who wakes in a wrecked hotel room with no memory of the previous night, only to discover a body in the bathtub, setting off a chain of events that draws him and a hotel maid into a web of confusion and conspiracy.

Audiences will experience Bad Day at the Office on Wednesday 19 August at Cineworld Fountainbridge by immersing themselves in the sights, sounds, scents and motions of the 4DX screening, a rarity as a format for UK Film Festival screenings.

Produced under UK based Action Xtreme banner, producers on the film include Andreas Roald (Triangle of Sadness, Memoria), Chee Keong Cheung and Ioanna Karavela (Redcon-1). Bad Day at the Office is written by Oliver Morran (The Experiment) and Chee Keong Cheung.

Bad Day at the Office will be released in cinemas in UK and Ireland on 30 October.

The Midnight Madness strand runs throughout EIFF and unleashes the very best in new genre cinema from around the world with recent years seeing the UK Premieres of Alien: Romulus, The Substance, The Toxic Avenger and World Premiere of Ben Wheatley's Bulk.

This special screening joins 38 new feature film presentations including 21 feature film World Premieres at this year's EIFF as well as special presentation screenings of including Anthony Minghella's iconic film The Talented Mr Ripley, Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, Takeshi Miike's Visitor Q, Hal Ashby's Coming Home and Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton's Little Miss Sunshine.

This year's EIFF runs from 13 – 19 August 2026 and opens with the International Premiere of Edinburgh-born filmmaker Louis Paxton's debut feature The Incomer and closes with Louise Lockwood's powerful debut documentary feature Bel.

EIFF's invigorated vision under leadership from CEO & Festival Director Paul Ridd and Festival Producer Emma Boa continues to accelerate the discovery of new film talent and engage with audiences, industry members and local, national and international media.

EIFF 2026 is supported by Screen Scotland and the BFI Audience Projects Fund, awarding National Lottery funding, the Industry Programme is backed by EXPO funding from the Scottish Government through Creative Scotland, and VisitScotland.

The EIFF team continues to create a world-class showcase for independent film and filmmaking talent. The Festival is supported by a Board chaired by Andrew Macdonald of DNA Films, producer of the iconic Edinburgh-based film Trainspotting, including Vice Chair Amy Jackson, producer of BAFTA award-winning indie, Aftersun; Peter Rice, former chairman of General Entertainment at Disney and President of 21st Century Fox; Teresa Moneo, producer and former Director of UK Film, Netflix; Isla Macgillivray, Partner at Saffery; and video game producer Romana Ramzan.

The film's cast also includes Lana Parrilla, Tamer Hassan, Branko Tomović, Victor Gardener, Roxanne McKee and Tim Fellingham, with production under the UK-based Action Xtreme banner. BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE is set to open in cinemas across the UK and Ireland following its festival premiere.
