ABC's WORLD NEWS Continues to Close Viewing Gaps with NBC

For the week of August 5, 2013 "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.07 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.76 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "World News" posted Total Viewer increases from both the prior week (+2% - 6.96 million on w/o 7/29/13) and year-ago week (+4% - 6.78 million on w/o 8/6/12). In fact, the ABC evening newscast has improved week to week in 3 of the last 4 weeks and year to year in the last 3 weeks.

Among Adults 18-49, "World News" beat "NBC Nightly News" twice during a course of a week for the 2nd week in a row, ranking No. 1 on Wednesday (+129,000) and Friday (+14,000). In fact, in the last three weeks, "World News" has beaten "Nightly News" in 7 of their 15 head-to-head telecasts.

"World News" continues to narrow the viewing margins with "NBC Nightly News" in key measures. Last week it slashed more than 3/4 of its year-to-year margins with "NBC Nightly News" in both Total Viewers (-83%, 518,000 vs. 3.00 million) and Adults 25-54 (-77%, 246,000 vs. 1.07 million).

Season to date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+2%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins by double digits with "NBC Nightly News" among both Total Viewers ?(-28%) and Adults 25-54 (-22%) to post its smallest margins (760,000 and 294,000, respectively) with the NBC program in 5 years- since the 2007-08 season.

For the week, "World News" defeated "CBS Evening News" by 1.34 million Total Viewers and by 362,000 Adults 25-54.
