Metropolitan Opera's HD LIVE IN SCHOOLS Launches Sixth Season by BWW News Desk
- December 11, 2013 The Met: HD Live in Schools, a national program that uses live transmissions of Metropolitan Opera performances to create cross-disciplinary educational experiences for students around the country, will reach children in a record 34 school districts in its sixth season. The program, which provides teachers and administrators with educational resources geared to select performances from The Met: Live in HD—the Met's award-winning series of live opera transmissions to movie theaters around the world—and arranges for students to attend the transmissions in their hometowns, is expected to reach approximately 15,000 students in 24 states during the 2013-14 season. The first HD Live in Schools transmission of the year, Verdi's Falstaff, is an operatic adaptation of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and will be transmitted live from the Met stage on December 14.

This well-loved story is brought to life through song, music, dance and puppetry. The production, directed and choreographed by Will Tuckett, will run at the Duchess Theatre from tonight 11 December 2013 - Saturday 1 February 2014.

- December 10, 2013 Chicago Opera Theater dives into the pool again for a remount of its highly successful production of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus & Euridice in partnership with the Chicago Park District in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events as part of the Classics in the Parks series. Following the sold-out run of four performances at the Eckhart Park Pool in the West Town neighborhood in early November, COT will bring three additional performances to Lincoln Square on December 19, 20, and 22 at the Welles Park Pool. The San Francisco chapter of OOT will perform two opera's in downtown San Leandro as part of Curtain Call's 5th anniversary season. The first production is Giocomo Rossini's Cinderella themed opera, La Cenerentolawith five performances scheduled Friday through Sunday, December 13-15.
