Situated only a few blocks from the heart of Times Square, The Rum House has a Broadway personality that reflects the classic days of George Gershwin and Cole Porter with the style and intimacy of a 1930's speakeasy. When you mix in a wealth of wonderful cocktails, live jazz music and top it all off with quick and attentive service, it's the perfect retreat for theatergoers or anyone in the Midtown area.

True to its name, the Rum House aces cocktails like the mojito. Perhaps even better, other classics are given rum-based twists. Their Old Fashioned is available with the standard rye, or with a rum foundation that adds a real sweetness. Then, there are the house recipes, all sorts of drinks that cultivate complex combinations of tastes. Who needs dessert after dinner when you can visit The Rum House and enjoy The Lower West Side with Brugal Anego, strawberry, mint, lemon, egg white and cinnamon.

And, for those who prefer wine, beer and bubbly, there's a fine selection. Small bites go well with drinks that include fresh salted popcorn, mixed nuts and pressed sandwiches.

We also like their Pre-Theater Cocktail Menu ($14) that is inspired by the Fall 2014 season of shows and is available from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Real Thing is named for The Real Thing at American Airlines Theatre and has Rye, Cognac, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitters, Peychaud's Bitters and Benedictine. The Barrymore is inspired by The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime at The Barrymore Theatre and is made with Bruichladdich Rocks, Peat Monster Scotch, Ramazotti Amaro, Yellow Chartreuse, Orange Zest. There are other selections just as delightful so you can raise a glass to your favorite shows.

One visit to The Rum House is not enough. You will want to return each and every time you are in the Broadway area.

The Rum House is located at 228 West 47th Street (Between Broadway and 8th Avenue) in New York City. Phone (646) 490-6924, or visit www.edisonrumhouse.com. You can also contact them at info@edisonrumhouse.com.
