Fox Theatre to Welcome Back The State Ballet Theatre of Russia in SLEEPING BEAUTY
The Fox Theatre presents the return of The State Ballet Theatre of Russia with a timeless production of Sleeping Beauty on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at 3 p.m.
Composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreographed by Marius Petipa, Tchaikovsky based his ballet on The Brothers Grimm's version of Charles Perrault's "La Belle au bois dormant." "Sleeping Beauty" received its premiere on Jan. 15, 1890, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, and today, it stands as one of the world's most beloved and oft-performed ballets.

The world-renowned troupe has toured with productions of traditional Russian classics throughout France, (performing "Sleeping Beauty" in 38 cities), Germany, Holland and Czech Republic, as well as in India and throughout Africa with engagements in Tunisia, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia has a distinguished history that dates back to 1870. Their precise, traditional approach to the classic ballets-particularly those by Tchaikovsky-upholds the elegant, expressive ideals of Russian classical dance. Among the company of 50, including a full corps de ballet, are many acclaimed Russian artists and winners of many international ballet competitions. Founded by legendary dancer and former Prima Ballerina of The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet, Maya Plissetskaya, The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, now under the direction of award-winning dancer and Moiseyev dance company soloist Nikolay Anokhin, presents one of the greatest classical ballets of all time.
