The Summer Solos Series (Scott Morfee and Darren Lee Cole, producers), a celebration of the best in solo performance and shows by acclaimed playwrights and performers, concludes its inaugural season with one-night only performances of 9 Parts of Desire: In Concert, written and performed by Heather Raffo with music by Amir ElSaffar on Thursday, July 30, 2009, followed by Underneath The Lintel by Glen Berger on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, and concluding the season with That Dorothy Parker by Carol Lempert on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.
Grammy-Nominated Pianist Matt Herskowitz to Headline Jazz and Beyond Benefit at West Side YMCA 8/11

The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater at the West Side YMCA will host Grammy-nominated pianist Matt Herskowitz, his trio MaDFusion, and several accomplished musicians for Jazz and Beyond at 8pm on August 11. The evening will feature performances by classical guitarist Bert Lams, flutist and composer Carol Alban and flutist Nancy Tyler.

Visionary director Jeremy X. Halpern tames this four-hundred year old diatribe on male-female relationships. Company founder Paul Casali will star as Petruchio, and Lance Windish (formerly of Cirque du Soleil) will be featured as his manservant Grumio. This production proudly introduces Anna Lewis as the fiery hellion Kate, also starring company member Maria Alegre as her sultry younger sister Bianca. Mr. Halpern is using techniques combined from the work of Anne Bogart and Jerzy Grotowski to create a radically new ensemble-based approach to this legendary romantic work of theatre.

Choreographer Angel Corella has announced the U.S. debut of Corella Ballet Castilla y León, March 17 - 20 at New York City Center. The engagement will feature the U.S. premier of String Sextet, Mr. Corella's first choreography, performed to music by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky. Acclaimed singer, songwriter and bassist Meshell Ndegeocello will co-headline Lincoln Center Out of Doors' concert in Damrosch Park on August 7, sharing a bill with Raul Midón. She replaces Rokia Traoré (previously announced) whose scheduled U.S. tour has been postponed. Ndegeocello blends jazz, funk, rock, rap and soul as she continues to develop the 'neo-soul' genre she is credited with sparking.
