Riccardo Chailly and Stefano Bollani Release SOUNDS OF THE 30S, 5/22

Following the success of last year's recording of Gershwin's Piano Concerto and Rhapsody in Blue, conductor Riccardo Chailly and pianist Stefano Bollani return with an album of jazz-inspired classical works, including two world-premiere recordings. The album, which was recorded live at the Gewandhaus, Leipzig, will be released on May 22, 2012.

Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, America's oldest orchestra, come to Walt Disney Concert Hall in the final event of the LA Phil's 2011/12 Visiting Orchestras series, tonight, May 9, at 8 pm. Virtuoso pianist Yefim Bronfman joins the program, performing the West Coast premiere of Piano Concerto No. 2, by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. Also on the program are Dvorak's Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Though Gilbert has previously appeared at Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH), most recently during the 2006/07 season, the performance will be the New York Philharmonic's WDCH debut.

LA Master Chorale Showcases 1,000 Southland Teens at High School Choir Festival Tonight, 5/4

For 23 years, the Los Angeles Master Chorale has helped fuel a passion for choral music among Southland teenagers with its annual High School Choir Festival, a yearlong music education and mentoring program that reaches nearly 1,000 students and their choir teachers in 25 local high schools, culminating with a free concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall where the public can hear the next generation of singers. This year's event, the 23rd Annual Los Angeles Master Chorale High School Choir Festival, features participating students in a massed 1,000-voice choir tonight, May 4, 2012, at 1 pm, at Disney Hall. There will also be a special performance by the 80-voice Festival honor Choir, comprised of students from the 25 participating schools. Grant Gershon, music director of the LA Master Chorale, conducts both choirs, which have been rehearsing for the concert since last fall.

Renowned violinist Gil Shaham joins Music Director Jacques Lacombe and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) for "Shaham & Lacombe," a concert program the Orchestra will present in Newark, New Brunswick and Morristown tonight, April 27, through April 29. Shaham and the NJSO will give the world premiere of Richard Danielpour's Kaddish for Violin and Orchestra; Shaham also performs Berg's Violin Concerto, "To the Memory of an Angel." The program also includes Prokofiev's Symphony No. 3, for which the composer adapted music from his opera The Fiery Angel, and Mozart's Masonic Funeral Music.
