The 2016-17 season is an exceptional year for Robert Paterson, the New York-based composer whose music has been praised for its elegance, wit, rhythmic vitality, and wonderful sense of color that 'often seems to shimmer.' He will have the first evening-length, fully-staged opera production of his career: Three Way, a trio of comic operas with libretto by David Cote 'about craving and connection,' co-produced by Nashville Opera and American Opera Projects, will have its world premiere in Nashville and its New York premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy Brings Young Pianists to Philadelphia for Master Classes

Now in its fourth year as an international event, The Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy (PYPA), returns to the Curtis Institute of Music this summer for eight days in August. Twenty outstanding young pianists ranging from ages 12 to 24 selected from the United States, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Hungary, Belgium and Columbia will gather at Curtis to study one-on-one with five international concert masters; The PYPA Director Ching-Yun Hu, Charles Abramovic, Zhaoyi Dan, Douglas Humpherys and Alon Goldstein. Five highly talented alternate students will also be invited to attend as observers. The young pianists were invited based on a rigorous selection process that included submitting a written application and an audio recording for review.

Illustrious Conductor James Levine is Back Home at Ravinia for Gala

James Levine has returned to Ravinia for the first time since completing his music directorship in 1993 to prepare the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the Ravinia Women's Board's 50th Anniversary Gala. On Saturday, July 23, Levine will celebrate the 45th anniversary of his concurrent Ravinia and CSO debuts, by conducting Mahler's Second Symphony, the first piece he ever conducted at Ravinia-on June 24, 1971. Saturday's soloists will be soprano Ying Fang and mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill. A large video screen will be erected on the lawn to show the concert in detail.
