New Jersey Symphony Presents RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK With Live Orchestra, 1/6-8

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra presents Raiders of the Lost Ark with live orchestral accompaniment, January 6-8 in Red Bank, Newark and New Brunswick. The Orchestra performs John Williams' epic score as the film Roger Ebert called 'a movie of glorious imagination and breakneck speed' screens above the stage. Steven Spielberg's timeless classic sees Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones on a quest to recover the legendary Ark of the Covenant and save the world. Constantine Kitsopoulos conducts.
KODO Returns to U.S. in 22-City Tour, 1/26-3/25

Kodo — the  world's most celebrated masters of Japanese percussion, who played a singular role in popularizing modern taiko drumming — will present their program DADAN in North America for the first time, visiting 22 U.S. cities between January and March 2017.  Forging new directions for the traditional Japanese drum, Kodo will bring a display of their raw athleticism and rhythmic mastery back to the U.S. with this cutting-edge and ever-evolving production featuring the men of Kodo in a bold portrayal of the essence of drumming through this vibrant living art form.  2017 tour highlights include stops at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Chicago's Symphony Center the Smith Center in Las Vegas and BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) in New York City.  Complete schedule below.
York Symphony Orchestra To Play BEETHOVEN'S FIFTH SYMPHONY, 1/21

A Pacific Symphony Piano Masterclass led by the gifted, imaginative and electrifying performer, Zhang Zuo, is providing an exciting opportunity for three lucky non-professional pianists—one high school student, one college student and one adult (age 22+) non-professional musician. Zuo (who goes by the nickname, “Zee Zee”) not only makes her Pacific Symphony debut with Beethoven's mighty Third Piano Concerto on March 23-25, but she will be inspiring and sharing her expertise during the Masterclass held March 22. The dynamic young pianist has been described by the Los Angeles Times as “a powerful, passionate and compelling representation of pure artistry.”
Princeton Symphony Orchestra Un/Restrained Concert Features Klezmer Clarinetist David Krakauer

On Sunday, January 29 at 4 pm, virtuoso clarinetist David Krakauer and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) explore expressions of personal and cultural identity in performances of Wlad Marhulets' award-winning Concerto for Klezmer Clarinet and Osvaldo Golijov's intimate K'vakarat. Also featured on the Un/Restrained program are guest composer Saad Haddad's captivating fanfare Manarah and Dmitri Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Op. 110a. Conducted by Music Director Rossen Milanov at Richardson Auditorium on Princeton University campus.

Since 2013  Cherry Orchard Festival has built a solid reputation for presenting moving and intriguing concerts and productions by international artists and ensembles to New York City audiences. Tickets are now on sale for musical and theatrical performances as the festival returns for its fifth season this spring.  There will be two Carnegie Hall concerts by two of Russia's leading ensembles, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Russia's oldest orchestra (March 4), and Moscow Virtuosi (June 7).

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will kick off 2017 with the continuation of its two-year Brahms Fest. Heinrich Schiff, Austrian cellist and conductor, has passed away at the age of 65 in Vienna. He studied cello with Tobias Kühne and André Navarra and made his solo debut in Vienna and London in 1971. He studied conducting with Hans Swarowsky, and made his conducting debut in 1986.
