Sarasota Orchestra Receives $10,000 Grant from National Endowment for the Arts by BWW News Desk
- July 06, 2017 The Sarasota Orchestra received a $10,000 grant from National Endowment for the Arts. The grant offers funding to area arts organizations in support of their artistic mission. The grant funds supported the 53rd Sarasota Music Festival (SMF or Festival). This three-week residency program brings together 60 exceptional young musicians and 40 renowned faculty artists for a series of coaching sessions, lectures, rehearsals and performances in Sarasota.
WQXR Young Artists Showcase Features Brevard Music Center by BWW News Desk
- July 06, 2017 At 9:00 PM tonight, Wednesday, July 5, Brevard Music Center (BMC) begins a new collaboration with New York City's WQXR and its longstanding and distinguished Young Artists Showcase—a WQXR weekly radio show that since 1978 has sought out and displayed the talents of young emerging artists. WQXR is New York City's only classical music radio station, broadcasting live on 105.9 FM. Part Two of BMC's appearance on Young Artists Showcase, hosted by veteran Robert Sherman, will occur next Wednesday, July 12 at 9 PM.

- June 28, 2017 Myles Blakemore, a trombone player from Dallas, Texas, and Jason Tanksley, a tuba player from Eastpointe, Michigan, have won positions as the Minnesota Orchestra's first-ever Rosemary and David Good Fellows. The newly created fellowship is designed to encourage greater diversity in the orchestral field by supporting the career development of outstanding young musicians of African-American, Latino-American and Native-American descent as they embark on professional orchestral careers. Blakemore and Tanksley will begin their two-year fellowships—which will run concurrently—in September 2017.

Jon Washburn Announces Transition at the Vancouver Chamber Choir by BWW News Desk
- June 26, 2017 After 46 years, the Vancouver Chamber Choir's founder and long-time conductor Jon Washburn is announcing his intent to step down as Artistic and Executive Director to become the professional choral ensemble's Conductor Emeritus. He will continue to lead the Choir through its 47th and 48th concert seasons (2017/18 and 2018/19) while the organization searches for his successor. Once that new person is designated he will assume his new role as Conductor Emeritus and principal guest conductor.

- June 21, 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $40,000 to Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to launch a 2018 nationwide tour, further their education and community initiatives, and introduce the new Orpheus Music Academy training program. The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
