The Mark Twain House & Museum and Hartford Seminary Present a Book Event with DANIEL DARLING, 10/20 by BWW News Desk
- October 05, 2015 From hit songs to bumper stickers to eye-black, Jesus is trending high wherever you look. But at the end of the day, many 'try Jesus' and come away disappointed in the experience. That's because the Jesus of popular culture looks much more like us than the God-man who appeared in the flesh two thousand years ago. We've got Guru Jesus, Braveheart Jesus, Dr. Phil Jesus, Free-Range Jesus, and plenty more imposters that feed into our selfish desires. The problem is, they don't have the power to save us or transform us into new creations. Luckily, it doesn't have to be that way.
University Press of Kentucky Releases THE BIRTH OF BOURBON, Photographs by Carol Peachee by BWW News Desk
- October 05, 2015 Kentucky is home to more barrels of bourbon than people, and ninety-five percent of all of America's native spirit is produced in the Bluegrass State. More than two hundred distilleries once operated in Kentucky, but only sixty-one survived Prohibition. Though the businesses were gone, most of the buildings remained, unused, slowly deteriorating for decades. Now, thanks in large part to the explosion of interest in craft bourbon, many of these historic buildings are being brought back to life, often as new distilleries. With progress, however, comes loss, and the record of what existed at these sites across the Commonwealth is disappearing just as more and more people are interested in bourbon's history.

Bellevue Washington Glass High-Rise Architecture Portrayed in New Photo Edition by BWW News Desk
- October 04, 2015 Marquis Publishing, an affiliate of the Marquis Gallery announces the release of 'The Glass Curtain Architecture of Bellevue, Washington.' Over 120 photographic images captured by artist Marques Vickers portray the predominantly glass surfaced multi-level constructions in Bellevue. The edition is available through the Amazon Kindle online store.
Straddling Lake Washington and connected to urban Seattle by two floating bridges, Bellevue is considered an Eastside boomburg (booming suburb). The contemporary city features a clustered downtown concentration of high-rise glass skinned office and commercial structures. Bellevue, which translates into beautiful view in French, is a 37 square mile community with a population of 135,000. The cornerstone development is the Bellevue Square shopping center. Enlargement has expanded significantly beginning with the 1990s technology industry expansion.
Vickers commentary includes an introductory essay on the evolution of high-rise structures dating from the ancient Roman era to contemporary design. Vickers traces the increased evolution of glass exteriors based on a fundamental architectural shift in structural emphasis beginning in the 20th century. Masonry based walls supporting the weight of structures were replaced by steel spined framing. The load-bearing hollow cylinders supported wall curtains which ultimately made glass panes an ideal fixture.
The traditional considerations for employing glass have included economics, ease and speed of installation and weight factors. Although significantly lighter than masonry, glass high-rises have comes under increasing criticism and scrutiny for issues including energy consumption, CO2 emissions, privacy, slippage and projected lifespan.
Economics, engineering and construction management remain essential elements to preserving an equilibrium between beauty and practicality. Significantly sized glass curtains may ultimately be de-emphasized with shifting building design preferences, particularly in moderately scaled suburban backdrops. In Bellevue, the sleek and gleaming reflective glass curtains still reign. The future and composition of Bellevue's skyline will undoubtedly mirror the fortunes and ambitions of advanced high technology.
Marquis Publishing specializes in paperback and eBooks distributed through the Amazon and Barnes and Noble online stores. For further information on other Marques Vickers' photography publications, visit FantasyJourney.com and InsiderSeriesBooks.com.

'My Authentic Self' Makes Its National Debut a Coffee Table Book Release by Leroy Campbell Harlem, NY November 19, 2015 6:00-9:00 P.M. by BWW News Desk
- October 04, 2015 Celebrated visual artist and Gullah cultural ambassador Leroy Campbell embraces his African roots and the journey to self discovery with the debut of his first coffee table book, My Authentic Self, during the holiday pop-up gallery at The Sol Studio (located at 2073 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., between 123rd St. and 124th St., New York, NY, 10027) November 19, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The gallery will also feature works from Campbell's artist friends April Harrison, Charly Palmer, Maurice Evans, Najee Dorsey, Phyllis Stephens and Sara Bunn. For Campbell, this book release is a celebration of life and purpose.
A colorful, thought-provoking collage of literary and artistic mediums, My Authentic Self, strips Campbell of any pretenses to uncover the soul's truth. With over 90 pages, the uniquely designed hardback travels through pivotal moments of his life utilizing the themes of family, education, love, music and the discovery of artistry. Artwork is accompanied by short proses, mantras and poems to give insight into personal challenges like witnessing domestic violence and then being protected by a traditionally-involved community comprised of neighbors, loved ones and acquaintances. Other illustrations include his trek from being a Charleston, South Carolina native ashamed of his roots to a proud Gullah cultural educator and prosperous visual artist living in New York City, and acquiring celebrity clients Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Joyner and Terry McMillian.
'I was born in Charleston, South Carolina during a time period when no one wanted to be Gullah, Geechee, Black or African,' says Campbell. 'I was born with a birth defect and my parents were uneducated. They had struggles and, therefore, I had struggles that I'm still working to heal. But I'm a work in progress. I'm always working on myself. And I just love where I am now.' For readers, My Authentic Self is not only inspiration from one man's journey, but also a challenge to reflect on their lives and see the infinite potential to be whole.
In addition to the open book release, there will be a limited edition offering an exclusive image from the Family Collection. 'Family has always been the foundation of my work. I always champion family before individualism, and then community, the nation and the world,' he explains. The exclusive image will be in a specially designed box filled with decorative linen, and a certificate of authentication.
My Authentic Self pop-up gallery will run November 19, 2015 to December 20, 2015 at Harlem's The Sol Studio. Mondays are by appointment only. 'Families can read this book together,' he says. 'It can be a bedtime children's book. Its creative design and narrations of the human experiences make it a book for everyone.'

Cambron Publishing Group to Publish New Book by Mary Frances Fisher by BWW News Desk
- October 04, 2015 Cambron Press, an imprint of Cambron Publishing Group, LLC to Publish New Book by Mary Frances Fisher.
MK McClintock, publisher of Cambron Publishing Group LLC, announced today that Cambron Press has acquired the rights to the new novel by author Mary Frances Fisher. Lorraine Fico-White will edit.
A historical suspense novel, "Paradox Forged in Blood," is set in Cleveland, Ohio during the late 1930s. Four decades after the murder of socialite, Louis Sheridan, the cold case is resurrected with receipt of new evidence that transports detectives back to Nazi Germany and the only living witness must confront a haunting secret and her complicit actions.
It will be published in simultaneous trade paperback, large print, and e-book editions in 2016.
Comments Mary Frances, 'Writing Paradox Forged in Blood was cathartic for me following the death of my mother-a wonderfully compassionate and caring woman who possessed the soul and spirit of a true Irish lass. It enabled me to cast her in a wonderful murder mystery at a time when the world was reeling from the Great Depression before being thrust into World War II. In spite of a world gone seemingly mad, she discovers that love, family, and a sense of humor brought much-needed sanity to an otherwise chaotic time.'
Author: Mary Frances Fisher, a life-long resident of Cleveland OH, has spent the majority of her career as a legal nurse consultant and recently signed onto Taxi Agency as a commercial print model. With Germaine Moody and writer contributions from over 100 countries, she co-authored her first published work in 2013, 50 Seeds of Greatness. Her additional writing experiences include several short stories: "Earning My Wings" in Touched by an Angel: A Collection of Divinely Inspired Stories and Poems, Transcendent Publishing, October 2013; "Mercy's Legacy" in Best of Spiritual Writers Network 2013, Transcendent Publishing, December 2013; "Be Careful What You Wish For" in The Best of Spiritual Writers Network, Transcendent Publishing, January 2015. She has written a screenplay based on "Mercy's Legacy" and is working on a PFIB companion novel titled Growing Up O'Malley. Mary Frances lives in a suburb of Cleveland with her family.
