Meditation is one way to achieve inner peace and healing. This new book provides a tool for people who want to deepen their meditative experience and bring their hearts' stories into the light so they can live in what author Kathryn Samuelson calls "a mindful and heartful" way, fully exploring the perceived dualities of life.

"Opening the Heart: Meditations on How to Be" offers 56 distinctive meditation images, corresponding texts and exercises to use along with the images and texts. The author's goal is to help others bring openness into their life and heart, prepare the way for a journey unlike any other, learn how to travel into the heart with ease and build a new relationship with themselves. The text and companion meditation images allow readers to contemplate the duality of life, from the smallest quantum reality to the infinite universe. For instance, one meditative phrase implores "Go slowly. Take your time," while its companion image reads "Embrace the swiftness of change."

Expanded meditative prose, along with the exercises, facilitates inner exploration and consideration of how to live in relation to the world, families, friends, oneself and the divine. Vibrant nature photographs by David Steiner and dedicated space in the book to chronicle experiences through journaling, drawing and creating collages add to the hands-on aspect of learning to live in hope and from the heart instead of in competition with one another.

Author Kathryn Samuelson was born and raised in Illinois, graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law. She practiced law in Illinois for more than 26 years before moving to Massachusetts, where she began working as a psychic and life coach. She has a professional coaching certification from the University of New Hampshire. Samuelson, a longtime poet and meditator, has led workshops based on "Opening the Heart." She enjoys producing mixed media art. Linda Lewis is co-creator of the book.
