"The Lion in Winter" depicts the tumultuous Christmas gathering of King Henry II of England, his imprisoned wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their three sons as they fiercely maneuver and plot to secure the throne, with Eleanor cleverly manipulating her sons (Richard The Lionheart,Prince John ,Prince Geoffrey)against their father while the family dynamics and political machinations unravel in a web of betrayal and power struggles. Added to the mix is Princess Alais,Henry's mistress,and young King Phillip II, her brother, who demands the terms of a treaty, wherein his sister must marry Richard.
