ABOUT THE SHOW
With a team made up of a small but ambitious group of recent Boston University School
of Theatre graduates who are excited to bring innovative work to Boston, The Nina
Variations is ready to take audiences by storm.
In this funny, fierce and heartbreaking homage to The Seagull, Steven Dietz takes
Chekhov’s star-crossed lovers into 43 variations on their famous final scene where Nina
(a young actress) and Treplev (a young writer) pit their vibrant wit and soaring passions
against one another in a fast-paced tour de force of romantic entanglement.
Funny, tender, frustrating, and deeply human, The Nina Variations ponders what we
mean when we talk about love.
Is such a thing as a “right” version of a relationship?
Can the ending really ever be different?
How many different ways can two people fall in love, hurt each other, find each other,
and when can they truly let one another go?
Overflowing with love, ambition, resentment, heartbreak, and hope, our production
reimagines the world of The Seagull while challenging the conventions of traditional
theatrical performance. Featuring dynamic performances by Avery Russey (Nina) and
Leo Flora (Treplev) and innovative direction by Claire Mitchell, all 2026 graduates of
Boston University’s School Of Theatre, The Nina Variations is not to be missed!
