An immersive candlelit soirée hosted by Boston's Victorian Gossip Girl. Cocktails, Hors d'oeuvres, Live Music, Love, Living History. History At Play™ invites guests and lovers to an Immersive Living History Experience. Enjoy a romantic evening of delicious cocktails and even more delicious gossip. Venture to The Merchant, mere steps from the old Ticknor & Fields Publishing House in Downtown Crossing. Boston was hailed as "the hub of the universe," according to Oliver Wendell Holmes and its notoriety came from its Victorian literary successes. Ticknor & Fields was the greatest publishing house in the United States, if not the world in the mid-19th Century, and its namesake-- Annie Fields-- knows every juicy detail about the lives of its transcendental writers. Love is love, and it takes many forms. Learn how famous writers handled being pricked by Cupid’s arrow, including: Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Dickens, and even Annie Fields herself. And while Annie loves to gossip about others, she will tell all about her Boston marriage to Sarah Orne Jewett. Enjoy live music by harpist Melegie, as well as a Dickens'-inspired cocktail, created by talented craft mixologists at The Merchant Kitchen & Drinks, 60 Franklin Street, Boston, MA.
Doors, live music, hors d'oeuvres, and craft cocktails at 7:00 pm. Living history performance begins at 7:30pm. One (1) Dickens'-inspired cocktail included in the cost of admission (non-alcoholic option or guest's choice also available). Additional drinks may be purchased. Ticket holders receive 10% OFF food and non-alcoholic beverages at The Merchant Kitchen & Drinks on the date of the event. Validated parking available. Recommended for ages 18 and up.
