Theatre Workshop of Nantucket proudly launches its landmark 70th season with the Nantucket premiere of Eureka Day, Jonathan Spector’s razor-sharp, Tony Award-winning comedy that took home the 2025 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. Directed by Colin Hanlon, fresh off his hit TWN production of Buyer & Cellar, this explosively funny and wildly relevant production opens in June as the first mainstage event of the celebratory anniversary season.
Set in the halls of an elite progressive private school in Berkeley, California, Eureka Day follows a well-intentioned school board determined to navigate a public health crisis through empathy, inclusion, and endless open dialogue. But as tensions escalate and carefully curated politeness begins to crack, the meeting spirals into total comedic chaos. Hilarious, smart, and uncomfortably relatable, Eureka Day skewers modern communication, performative civility, and the fragile line between community and conflict.
The production features a powerhouse cast from Broadway, television, and film. Broadway favorite Kilty Reidy brings credits including The Drowsy Chaperone, Come From Away, Billy Elliot, and White Christmas. Kate Cullen Roberts, who appeared in the New York premiere of Eureka Day, has been seen on Broadway in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jacksonand Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Stephanie Umoh’s acclaimed Broadway career includes Hamilton, Ragtime, Falsettos, and Junk at Lincoln Center Theater. Blake Lee, beloved for Parks and Recreation and Cruel Summer, brings his signature comedic energy following standout work in television and film including Mixology, The Astronaut Wives Club, and The Christmas Setup.
Sumi Yu joins the company following acclaimed Off-Broadway appearances with Lincoln Center Theater and Encores!, along with television credits including Heels and Rise. The production also features a special cameo appearance by Nantucket’s own Shantaw Bloise-Murphy, Director of Culture and Tourism for the Town of Nantucket.
“Eureka Day is laugh-out-loud funny, daringly current, and exactly the kind of thrilling contemporary theatre we are excited to share with audiences during our 70th season,” said TWN Producing Artistic Director Justin Cerne. “It’s the kind of play that has audiences roaring with laughter one moment and leaning forward the next.”
As Theatre Workshop of Nantucket celebrates seventy years as one of the island’s defining cultural institutions, Eureka Day continues its tradition of bringing bold, first-rate professional theatre to Nantucket — productions that entertain, provoke conversation, and leave audiences buzzing long after the curtain falls
