Im guessing this will be a transfer of the fantastic scaled down London production that is currently running.

Rumor has it this will be a gender re-write. Rosie and Ellen are being bandied about in the leads.

Sonia Friedman has already stated publicly (months ago) that she's hoping to move the current West End revival to Broadway this coming season.

"While Friedman's immediate pipeline of projects is extensive enough, the full list of properties to which she holds the rights is roughly four times longer. Chief among them is her current hit West End transfer of the Menier Chocolate Factory production of 'La Cage aux Folles,' which she's 'very, very keen' to take to Broadway, largely to showcase Douglas Hodge in his star-making turn as drag hausfrau Albin.

'There'll be a nervousness because the recent Broadway revival wasn't a success," admits Friedman. 'But every American I've spoken to who has seen this one with Doug says it's exciting and different enough to work...'"

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Harvey sounded pretty certain that it would be here next year.

I'd prefer someone other than Hodge to do it.

It is a stunning, STUNNING production in its simplicity. And it is a star-turn from Douglas Hodge, who was extraordinary as Albin. HE is the reason this production is so special; alternately hilarious and heartbreaking. We're in for a real treat here.

Dollypop is a national treasure and this revival is wholly unnecessary.

If Gypsy can come back with an acclaimed production just a few years after the last one, so can La Cage. And IMO, the Menier La Cage is an infinitely more worthy production to bring to Broadway than the highly overrated LuPone Gypsy.

I'm still pissed Gary Beach didn't get to do a cast recording of the last LA CAGE revival.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'm a national treasure? You'll recall that Patti Lupone was called a "national treasure" at the last performance of GYPSY. Maybe we should both be hewn out of rock on a mountin side--sort of theater's Rushnmore.

Daniel Davis and the Les Cagelles were the only good things about the last La Cage.

Gary Beach was boring and the main reason for not doing a cast recording.

I'm seeing "La Cage" in London in August, and really looking forward it to.

Loved the revival of "La Cage" from a few years ago. Sad that it didn't have a cast recording. But, thrilled for the Tonys that it did win!

The timing of this (if it's happening) is BEYOND perfect! Everything that's going on with prop 8 and equality is going on.... it's just perfect.

Why not musicalize one of the sequals instead?

Arthur and Harvey have both had shows on Broadway in the last few seasons and are quite active, and Herman could write one last great score when the issue of gay marriage is at its most critical, politically speaking.

The film sequals really are better than most storylines of what passes as musical theatre these days. The stage sequals are equally fun.

I'm sure Harvey could come up with a great topic.

It would be a missed opportunity if there ever was one.

But, then again, musical sequals don't work - right ALW?

Trust me, the London production is TOTALLY worth bringing over here. The recent Broadway revival was entirely passable, but the London production is ELECTRIC.

Why would you want someone other than Douglas Hodge in the role? He is absolutely great.
