I will be in the city this week and wanted to see South Pacific and I know it's sold out. I've done cancellation lines for other sold out shows before with no problem and was wondering if anyone has done it for South Pacific or has seen anyone at the theatre trying to do cancellation.

I did it a two weeks ago and got a great seat. I got there around 11 and the box office line was 20 deep, but I was the only one in the cancellation line. Very easy.

Great to hear. Thanks MsNina.

As CurtainPullDowner asked, was that for a matinee or an evening show?

Also if you're in the city all week keep checking online day of (esp if you're looking for a single ticket), friend of mine snagged a single tix online at about 4pm for the 8pm evening show one night last week, no cancellation line needed.

I don't think it's undoable -- just get there no later than 11:00 a.m. and wear comfortable shoes.

Thanks for the tips! I am going to be in NYC this weekend and am hoping to find a single ticket to South Pacific for the Saturday evening perf. I've got Spring Awakening at the mat., but if there's a chance of cancellation tickets I may try that (with In the Heights being my fall back plan).

Thanks everyone. I will definitely try and let everyone know how it goes. I'll also keep checking online and see if anything pops up!

There was a very long line at yesterday-Sundays matinee. The SURLY box office was telling people that even single matinee tickets are unavailable until at least September.

The box office hasn't had to work this hard since Plummer did LEAR.

shh282- I was told by the gentleman at the box office who helped me that as long as you come early and are one of the first few people in the cancellation line, you are guaranteed a ticket. Typically (from my little experience, I could be wrong) cancellation tickets are sold two hours prior to each performance, however when the very accommodating team at Licoln Center saw me there early, they came and helped me then, rather than waiting until noon. A couple showed up right after me and got seats together a few rows behind me.

Also good to know- the cancellation line forms downstairs on the way to the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. There's a little sign and a velvet rope (a very posh reject line!). Another good tip is to bring cash – lots of it – in case ticket holders want to get rid of extra tickets.

All in all, it was a very easy experience. I was far more relaxed than those in the regular ticket line biting their nails hoping to get seats in July. I must applaud the box office for all their hard work.

Could someone recommend what time to show up for tickets for an evening performance?

Sorry if this is an ignorant question- but how much are the cancellation line tickets usually sold for? I know sometimes theatres around my area will offer them at a slight discount. Or are they the same price?

Got there at 4:30 today and there were 3 people ahead of me for the 7p.m. show this past evening (Tuesday). The first person said she arrived at 3:30 and apparently there were no cancellations up until then according to the box office. Like Ms.Nina said it was a pretty pleasant experience. All in all the three people ahead of me got in, along with myself and the three people behind me so a total of seven cancellations got in. And what great seats! L402, dead smack in the center! The tickets were the same price Idinster, and worth every penny.
