I'm starting this list because I want to be sure I have them as they come out. These are American releases except where noted. For foreign releases I'm only listing titles that will play on Region A machines (this includes North & South America and Japan). Please feel free to add, correct & update.

Chicago
Dreamgirls
Hairspray
Phantom of the Opera
The Producers - (Japan)
Rent

Sweeney Todd - (UK release May 19 - all region format)
Company - (release date May 20)

The Music Man - (release date pending)
Mamma Mia! - (release date pending)

I haven't seen any announcement for The Producers. It is not yet out in blu-ray.

The only other title pending release date that I see at this time is Mamma Mia!

I am hoping that in the next year or so we'll see the release of a lot of the classics by Rodgers & Hammerstein; Sondheim; Lerner and Loewe, etc. etc. However, it takes a long time to make a high quality restoration transfer to blu-ray from a classic film.

The Producers is not available domestically but it was released on Blu-ray in Japan.

It's taken long enough for titles to make it to DVD, now we have to wait for them to get to Blue-Ray!! UGH!!

Though not Broadway, is MOULIN ROUGE! on Blue-Ray?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I see nothing listed for Moulin Rouge.

There are other musicals on blu-ray that are not Broadway musicals.
Corpse Bride is out in Blu-ray and Sleeping Beauty is scheduled to be released on October 07, 2008.

Actually, if you're open to importing, Sweeney Todd is coming out on Blu-ray in the UK. I believe it was also region free so should play in players in the US. Keep in mind that Universal has announced they will be releasing to blu-ray later this year and Sweeney Todd will likely be out fairly early on.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the Japan Blu-ray of THE PRODUCERS. Just ordered it. With the exchange it came to about $41.00 USD (not including the shipping).

THE PRODUCERS was released by Universal Pictures, which just joined the Blu-ray bandwagon. Didn't want to wait to see if it would be included in the first cycle of Blu-ray discs they will start releasing soon, so I just went ahead with the Japan version. Its entirely in English with all the material (and film) with the optional subtitles.

Simply delicious. It totally blows the standard DVD to bits. You can see every detail in the pearl costumes of the showgirls in the "I Wanna Be a Producer" number. GORGEOUS!

Japan uses the exact same format as we do here in the US so there isn't any different. The only difference is that portions of the Blu-ray case is written in Japanese. The menu is entirely in English and it has an option if you want the menu in Japanese.

Until the US release is announced, this is our only option in obtaining it.

And for the record (in case most don't know), MAMMA MIA! arrives on Blu-ray and standard DVD on Tuesday December 16, 2008.

you're not getting the whole blu-ray experience, especially with musical dvds unless you have an entire blu ray home theatre system so you can also access the pure digital uncompressed digital sound. you're not getting that if you watch a blu ray disc on a basic blu ray player and listening to the disc's soundtrack on an HDTV's 2 speaker system.

Also COMPANY on PBS's Great Performances is also out on Blu-Ray.

I personally don't have a Blu-Ray/Home Theatre system, but my friend does and when I watched it at her house I was amazed at how awesome it looked.

I just got my first 1080p TV a week ago which means I can't even afford a Blue-Ray player, movies or new sound system for a while. *sigh* Maybe by the time Blue-Ray is obsolete I can get one.

Ah ha! Didn't work as well on film as on stage, but I'm sure it'll be worth getting for the soundtrack and visuals alone.
