Ok since my postings about Sutton Foster keep getting deleted, it must be because I am doing some copyright infringement. So I will just mention that if you read michael riedel's column in the NY Post, you can read about how the producers were thinking of having Robin Williams or Alec Baldwin play the Griffith's part, until Radcliff say he wasn't going to Broadway without Griffith.

(Yawn)

This news is older than the news of the Sutton Foster/Christian Borle separation.

HughE,

Here is it:

*********

http://www.nypost.com/seven/12052007/entertainment/theater/harry_rides_equus_to_broadway_484026.htm

Earlier this year, there were rumors that Griffiths might not be well enough to do "Equus" in New York. The list of possible replacements included Robin Williams and Alec Baldwin, who's said to be a big fan of the play. But Radcliffe made it clear to the producers that he wouldn't come to Broadway without Griffiths.

***********

Also- The Moderators only delete postings that has no link nor backup for news bec. some people will start posting rumors, hearsay, etc.. (i'm not syaing its you-in general) without any confirmation, and if people do a GOOGLE search .. the BWW postings will appear. If you provide your postings with the link-your postings will not be deleted. There's also a list of things you cannot post .(somewhere in this website) . You can add link by opening two browers and you just copy and paste the souce of your news. Hope this helps.

Riedel reports:
A couple of stagehands hoisted the ample actor up to the window. But when he tried to climb through it, he got stuck. The stagehands shoved him until he popped out on the other side. Griffiths hit the pavement, creating a hole the size of the Haleakala Crater on Maui. He then bounced across Leicester Square, flattening both the Empire and Odeon cinemas. He started to roll down The Mall in St. James Park, forcing the immediate evacuation of Buckingham Palace. He came to a stop at the palace gate, steadied himself and ducked into the famous Red Lion pub on Pall Mall for his usual coffee laced with very cheap brandy.

OK - I exaggerate. But his producer, David Pugh, did say of the whole incident: "You try to get Richard Griffiths out a back window. It was a bit touch-and-go."

A bit overboard on his discription, but I've always wondered... if the stage door is mobbed... why not use the front entrance like the audience uses? Surely someone could unlock those doors for him.

Doesn't Riedel have anything more newsworthy to write about than his not-so-very-funny spin on Richard Griffiths' girth? There must be SOMETHING out there for him to discuss. Memo to Riedel: Oscar Wilde you ain't.

Griffiths DOES bear the burden of a significant girth.

I thought that episode with Griffiths climbing out of a window was proven to be a myth.

I think it was Fosse. But I can't remember where I saw it.

Oh, and that whole business about a "phalanx of London bobbies always escorted Radcliffe to his car." -- to use a British term, that's bollocks. There were barracades around the stage door, and Daniel had security with him when he went round the perimiter signing things before going back inside. The part about not sigining Harry Potter stuff was true though. That was announced at the beginning of the run.
