You saw them on the True Colors tour and you fell in love with them just like I said you would.

Well, guess what? They're doing some year end/year beginning shows and tickets very very quietly just went onsale through their website. A full Dresden Dolls set is something to behold, creativity in every corner of the venue.

And they're playing New Years Eve at NYC's Grand Ballroom.
You can access the ticket sale here!

WAIT! That Stone Pony is Brian playing with Jesse Malin.

The Dresden Dolls shows are in purple.

Some of the others are Amanda solo shows.

I went to a play last week in which the preshow music was all Dresden Dolls. Good stuff. Felt like I was at a deranged carnival. I'm going to have to start listening to them.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

I love the Dolls. If I can't see them at the Orpheum, I'll definitely go the the Grand Ballroom.

They are absolutely fantastic to behold onstage!

A friend sent me a link to the video for Coin Operated Boy a while back. In all honesty, I thought it was freakin' bizarre. I didn't know what to make of it! But it grew on me and I kept going back to watch and listen.

Their website is really neat.

As you can imagine, Coin Operated Boy was particularly popular on the True Colors tour. Especially given how Amanda generally changes the lyrics from "I can even take him in the bath" to something else entirely.

So, if you think THAT song's wacky and infectious, look for the video for "Girl Anachronism." THEN look for the delectable "Sing," a gorgeous video of an equally gorgeous song.

I will not steer you wrong on the Dresden Dolls, Jane.

The first time I saw them was before there was a recording for Coin Operated Boy. When they got to the part where the song skips like on a record, it blew my mind, as the hippies used to say.

Can you recommend the best cd? I noticed that they have an import single cd of Coin Operated Boy on half.com for $122.

The first album is good, it has Coin and Girl and several other excellent songs ("The Jeep Song" and "Half Jack" being real favorites) but the second album, "Yes, Virginia..." is where they, you should excuse the expression, take it to the next level. No sophomore slump at ALL, and terrific songs all around.

There's a video for "Shores of California" that is, I am not making this up, a scene by scene recreation of David Lee Roth's "California Girls" video that even has a cameo by Kelly of "Shoes!" fame.

I never knew but always wondered what your av is.

Anyway, the Dolls must be one hell of a band to see in concert.

Oh yeah, cuz you never know what's going to happen. I've seen aerial acrobats twirling above them during songs, I saw one encore of Sing! with the perimeter of the theater ringed by fancifully dressed and made up people pitching in on the chorus. Like I said, creativity everywhere.

Oh, once they brought out this teeny pop band called Girl Authority and Amanda took over Brian's drums, he pulled out a guitar and they all did "I Love Rock and Roll." I've seen them cover "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath.

Perfection!
