What are some of your favorite funky NYC shops? Anything from antiques to clothes to knick-knacks to food...whatever!

There was an interesting furniture shop I liked, but I can't remember the name. It was all consanants like ZYXYPLYZL or something like that. Anyone remember it?

Matt, I remember bumping into some guys I know from Fort Lauderdale while in NYC and all they did was shop, the worst thing is that the bags were from stores like Macys or Bloomingdales, and those stores all over Florida, so while I was seeing Broadway shows that can't be seen elsewhere but in NYC, they were buying clothes that they could buy around the corner from where they live.
So my advice is, make sure you don't buy stuff that you can get in Chicago, plus remember, you don't need to add extra baggage!

"ZYXYPLYZL or something like that. Anyone remember it?"

If you're referring to Mxyplyzyk, it's on the western end of Greenwich Ave. in the W. Village. They don't have much in the way of furniture, but it's a home accessories store with the gay sensibility. Lots of fun to browse through and of course, buy from.

Kate's Paperie- card, stationary, paper, pens, invitations- wonderful stuff!

Strand Books- MOUNTAINS of used books and a basement full of new books at 50% off.

Triton Gallery- theater posters & memorabilia.

ditto Strand Books.

John's Pizzeria.

Century 21- ok, so they have locations in Jersey, I still think of it as an NYC store. :)

I used to love Fishs Eddy when they were uptown. I haven't been there since they moved (19th and B'way) but I understand that they have more room now. I love EVERYTHING in that store - except the prices. Again it's primarily dinnerware, flatware, and glassware.

Barney's, of course. Even just to look. The fragrance department has some of the most interesting, rare stuff you'll see.

Bouchon Bakery for the sickest chocolate chip cookie in the city.
Great coffee, too.

2 Boots Pizza - may not be the best pizza in NYC, but i love the cornmeal crust.

Winebar - for the most amazing flatbreads drizzled with truffle oil, and incredible flights of wine. It's one of the only places that will get me to venture into the East Village.

Mamie-I love everything in Fish's Eddy also, except for the prices. I remember when they were located on Hudson and Perry in the Village-they were REALLY cheap and had fun stuff. Now I'd consider them an upscale store as far as their prices go.

Cafe Grumpy? I love the name! I will definitely check that out. What is Century 21? I always thought that was the cheesy realty company with the yellow coats.

Matt..Century 21 reminds me of an upscale Woolworths. There's one right across from ground zero.

If you like burgers, and if you like cupcakes, you may want to try Burgers & Cupcakes, on 9th Ave between 35th & 36th. They serve burgers and.....wait for it......cupcakes.

I third Fishs Eddy. There really aren't that many stores that can get me excited about flatware, but it's definitely on the list. And Beard Papa's is great for cream puffs. I know they're not a New York-specific thing, but four of the six on the East Coast are in the city, and they're basically the best cream puffs around.

If you like food, Chelsea's Market is fun! re: Favorite NYC Shops
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I love the drama book shop on 40th between 7th and 8th and everytime I am home visiting I have to go there. Great selection of scripts and theatre books.

Also go down to chelsea and go to spice for great (cheap) thai.
