I ran across this interesting article on a film about Broadwday performers who are involved in a program to go from gay back to the straight world. Interesting... from RC in Austin, Texas

July 19, 2007 -- A WACKO group claiming to "cure" gays of their homosexuality is running secret meetings for closeted Broadway stars, according to a new documentary, "Gay No More?" Bill Hussung - who produced and directed the film with his wife, Mashara Canino-Hussung - says audiences will be "shocked" to see 20 popular Broadway dancers and actors who belong to the Life Ministry support group meeting twice weekly in underground locations. "It's an ex-gay movement with the core belief that you are gay because of a sexual trauma in your background. When you discover what that is, you can release it and be cured of gay desires," Hussung said. "People will be shocked to learn how widespread among the New York theater community this is." While he wouldn't name names, Hussung says all the performers "outed" in his movie signed releases saying it was OK. He hopes to have it ready for a September release.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Good for them, if this will help them feel better about themselves. I know that it is not an easy path, and wish them every happiness in life.

If their identities are going to be revealed in the movie anyway, what's the point of not revealing names in print? That doesn't make any sense, if his movie is going to out them eventually. I mean, if they signed releases, then fine, but I just don't get that logic.

You can't be serious. All evidence points that these programs do not work. All they do is teach their "participants" to supress their true desires and force themselves into heterosexual relationships. They almost always return to their "previous" orientation and are almost never happy.

There not being "outed", they are being "inend".

That's why I put it in quotes -- because it's the word they use in the article.

So...it doesn't mention whether these are current performers or like, the chorus from Flahooley or something. Either way, it's very odd. So does this mean there are a surprisingly large amount of Monster Truck Rally drivers who are desperately trying to turn gay? I bet it was the plastic bottle of Brut they got for Christmas that turned them all hetero.

I mean, the numbers have to net out somewhere, right?

I have my doubts about any of the 20 being actual "names"--it sounds like the producers are trying to drum up interest. The last sentence makes it sound like they don't have distribution yet. I guess it worked though, as I admit, I'm wildly curious.

'I have my doubts about any of the 20 being actual "names"'

To the general public...absolutely not names.

But to us psychos? Not only will we know who they are, there will be people on here who have created photo-presents for, wrote fan faction about or cried their eyes out in front of each and every one of these folks. There's just no way around it.

Ugh! I love how these people are all experts on this. My childhood was fine, I had a big family, my father was home at 6 every day and was always available, and I never suffered and "sexual trauma" that I'm aware of. Yet both my brother and I turned out very gay. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is an only child with divorced parents and has lots of issues with both of them. Wonder how that happened? Io don't buy this argument that it's your childhood, because I've seen gay people with such different pasts. Cut the sh*t people, seriously!

I bet they won't be anyone we have ever heard of. I'm sure their definition of "Broadway dancers and actors" will be extremely broad. Maybe there will be someone who was in a bus-and-truck Miss Saigon 8 years ago or something.

Born To Reign: You are lucky that you came from a good childhood. People have encountered good, inbetween and terrible childhood experiences. Don't be too quick to judge. Some gay people turned gay because of traumatic experiences too painful to mention. I imagine that there are many of "us" who fall into that category. RC

Uh, mayhaps because he knows that people (i.e. many on this very board, shocking as that is) will pay money to see this movie when there's a tease like that waiting for them? If I've just filmed 20 closeted Broadway actors desperately trying to straighten up and fly hetero, I'm totally dangling that carrot in front of the fans until they give me their money.

Patti Lu Pone FANatic, many straight people also had traumatic and painful experiences. Did those make them straight? Many girls and guys are very promiscuous because of those experiences as well, others have intimacy issues, etc. but they still get involved with and remain attracted to people of the opposite sex.

In my opinion, traumatic experiences may affect the way you relate to others in intimate situations, as well as have many other emotional implications but the idea that a traumatic experience can create a sexual preference is an urban legend.

It is one of the many ways people tend to justify homosexuality because by sticking to this theory, they can argue that it is not natural and people are not just born gay, it's always somebody's fault because it's a bad thing. It's a theory all these ex-gays and their ilk love to promote but time and results will prove it wrong.

Last comment on this topic: You are entitled to your opinion/theories. The pivotal word is: "Some". "Some" people have very bad childhood experiences and become gay. I fall into that category. This is my own personal experience. Others feel that gays are born that way. There is more than one explanation... and no one theory applies to everyone. We each have our own beliefs and different life experiences. THAT's the last I have to say about that. Peace. RC in Austin, Texas

Oh my god dont be insane

You are not gay because of your F****g childhood , bloody hell , please tell me you aren't an adult.

Im sorry for getting so mad but its ridiculous theories like that what make it harder on the rest of the gay community to get acceptance and make people understand that its not a choice or an infliction its how your born
