One of the most annoying and DEFINITELY the loudest evening of theater I've ever had.

I LOVE Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, but I just can not get into "Starlight" . . . the story or the music!

I hold fond memories of starlight express. the 1st show i auditioned for in NY. i had just arrived to NYC and my room mate at the time(who was VERY familiar with the show) wouldnt stop playing the London cast recording and was preparing to audition the the opening Broadway run. I knew i was a phenomenal rollerskater and could sing as well so i thought why not audition for this strange piece of theater. LOL. i was fresh behind the ears as far as the audition scene was concerned ..went and hadnt a clue who johnson-liff was. (a HUGE bdway casting agency at that time) so i went in un afraid.. no nerves.. not knowing what to expect.. and eventually went all the way to the final cut. my room mate was quite bitter. he didnt fair so well. i saw the show and knew most of the cast memebers from callbacks.. still friends with a couple of them. i really likes the show for what it was. it was fun and a magical time.

I saw one of the final previews, and the bridge had technical difficulty, and one by one cast members rolled down to stage level to great applause. After about the third one, I started thinking let's move this along. Then I saw Sir ALW and Sarah Brightman standing in an aisle with their coats on, and they departed. Andrea McArdle and Jane Kracowski (sorry for the spelling) were in it. The show took quite a bit longer to get through, some of it in utter darkness.

Th new revision of STARLIGHT that was on tour three years ago or so was very enjoyable. It was geared more towards kids, I would say. Also, they had 'Safety Goggles' that you put on at the start of each race so you could watch it on a screen in 3-D. I thought it was wonderful to see so many kids having an enjoyable experience at the theatre. I was really surprised at how much I liked it.

I loved the original production back in its day, but the revised productions and tours were mostly dull and lifeless.

I saw it in London, possibly... no probably the LOUDEST show I've ever seen. I needed a cocktail and a excederin to get through the second act.

Oh, how I hated the revision. When I saw those 3-D glasses in the Playbill, I almost turned around and walked out before the show even started.

Well, like I said it was for kids. Not very "Traditonal Theatre" once you let yourself go it was fun. IMHO re: Blast from the Past...STARLIGHT EXPRESS

One of my friends at the time was starring in it, so I was there more than I care to divulge...haha. I really enjoyed it, but I do agree that when it came time to race, my head was pounding...it was quite loud. After it closed on broadway, I saw it in Vegas and they had the original Pearl from the NY company, I think her name is Reva Rice in it. She was about the only good thing. Most times when the show goes to Vegas, they do a condensed version of the broadway production. I dont think I would have cared for it too much with the 3-D glasses, however like it was said, probably geared more for kids. I was searching the net recently to see if any of the OBC were in shows now. I had gotten to know quite a few myself and would love to know what they have been up to.

Are there an y pics of the show?

Also, I saw Reva Rice as Velma in Chicago on tour in L.A. She rocked!

I love Starlight Express. It's total eye candy when you get a good production, and it's just plain fun (yes, even more fun than The Drowsy Chaperone). The German production is still running at full force after 18 years, and has had the fewest revisions to it. I hope to get over there next year to catch it.

Which program is it? If it's the Broadway version, is the orchestra listed? If it is, could you message it to me please.

This was my first show on Broadway. I wasn't really expecting to like it...but I loved it! We sat 3rd row far right, so the actors skated around us. It's just pure fluff! But sometimes that's all you need.

I do agree that the later tours were not as great. But I did get to take my niece and nephew to it and they enjoyed it very much.

I saw "Starlight Express" in NYC in July of 1988 at The Gershwin and loved it...LOVED IT! Got a ticket at TKTS and sat inside the rink circling the stage area. Jane K. was still in the show and I swear, I've never seen a more beautiful woman in my entire life. She was stunning.............absolutely stunning.

Saw it again here in LA at The Pantages Theatre in 1990, I believe. And, loved it all over again!

It's mindless fun........nothing more. And, you know that going to the show.

Starlight On Ice was a tour produced by Feld Entertainment (Disney on Ice, Ringling Bros. & Barnun & Bailey Circus). The Vegas run was a 90 min. reduction based on the US 1NT. The US 2NT and UK tours were expanded from the Vegas production with a couple of new songs and glaring omissions (see: Girls Rolling Stock).

I have to say that is shocked everyone here in the UK at how long it ran for here(something stupid like 15 years)because a lot of UK theatre goers hated it.

You guys got it sooooooooo right closing the shows so early in New York as it is an awfull show what relied on loud musical and OTT antics to get a reaction from the audience.

We have had the god awfull 3d touring production going round for a few years now but thats even worse.

Its time starlight is laid to rest once and for all.
