Hey everyone! The site has been updated again! All the photos of the broadway production are down and have been replaced with the current cast! Great to see!
I think she looks stunning. So she has hips! Its a hard dress to pull off. Part of me always wondered if that's why Patti never wore one, it might have been too unflattering on her.
I am so disappointed they didn't chose to put a blonde wig on Elena. She looks so incredibly ethnic in those pictures. I know it's been pointed out that by the end of the novel, Margaret mentions that Clara looks like one of the Italians, but isn't Clara's "all-American" look what catches Fabrizio's glance in the first place? Elena looks so tan and her hair is so brunette. To me, I don't see a difference between her and any of the other ensemble members except in the contrast between the colors in costume.
Be glad they didn't put a blonde wig on Elena. She is very brunette Woman. She looks fine without a blonde wig. Why is eveybody making such a big deal about her hair color? From what I hear Elena is a great clara. Updated On: 8/4/06 at 11:02 PM
I try to be open minded about the lack of blonde wig, because I hear Elena is a FANTASTIC Clara. However, I think the choice to have Clara be blonde was an inportant one and added a lot to the story. It allowed Clara to stand out amongst the Italian people. This was easily done by casting a fair, blonde girl as Clara, all three times (Celia, Kelli, and Katie). A bright haired red head would work too, because that would make her stand out. But the combination of Elenas tan skin and dark hair doesnt do well for the overall story. Clara and Margaret are supposed to stand out, and the differences between Clara and the rest of the world are crucial to the story. I'm tired of hearing people's references to the book saying how Clara gradually looks more and more italian, but i think that was both in attitude as well as looks, she was more tan, but i dont BELIEVE she was brunette.
In the pictures, Elena just looks like one of the Italian Chorus members. I appreciat ethe new spin they are trying to put on her physical appearance but i believe the original idea of fair, blonde worked much better. I cant wait to see elena though because i hear fantastic things. i just felt like venting. haha.
Anyone who looks at Christine Andreas and thinks, "she's fat" must be holding her to the impossible standard of Nicole Ritchie. Just because she has a figure doesn't mean she's fat.
I don't think so at all. First of all, look how flat her stomach is. Then see her skinny face, neck, arms and legs. I highly doubt anyone's going to be confusing her as large anytime soon.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

thats not a very good picture of celia, because in a video i saw of that cast, her hair was blonde. her hair was also blonde when she was in sweeney with hugh panaro as anthony, so i figured she kept it from that. her roots are growing out though...but she was blonde.
She does appear dirty blonde in the photos and video, but onstage it played as brunette. In no way did you watch her in the show and think she had blonde hair.
These are photos are from the Seattle run:
Not trying to have a fight with anyone, I could care less what color Clara's hair is to be quite honest. But Celia read as a brunette onstage.
