Has anyone seen this? It was good but so soppy. I went with a girl who I used to go out with and she cried all the way through and then moaned on the way home about being single. She dumped me, might I add.

On films, what's The Cat in the Hat like? I'm hoping it will be a hit in Britain despite the fact Dr Seuss is a very low key children's book.. The Grinch was massive.

Well, it's better to have loved and lost....

Maybe you should have taken her to a different kind of movie--Like T3: Rise of the Machines. She wouldn't have cried through it and wouldn't have been in a breaking up kinda mood when you left the theater.

I know, you were trying to be sensitive and romantic but she must have been giving off some kind of vibes before you went.

Just a thought.

I saw it and really liked it for the most part. I thought they had maybe one story too many. And it was just a little too long. It definately made me want to go back to England.
I also saw the Cat in the Hat over the weekend. Absolutely dreadful. Not at all in the spirit of Dr. Seuss. Avoid it at all costs.

This could have been a good movie if they had cut out about 3 story lines and focused more. It was to long. Not horrible just not good. Haunted Mansion is horrible. Don't waste your money.

I thought I'd LOVE it - - - saw it Wed and it was ok. Cute. I love Hugh Grant so that's a plus...but there were definitely too many story lines. Although I must say I saw it w/ a guy I'm "seeing" and left feeling rather tingly to say the least.

**SPOILERS**

I'll address them in the actors names since I don't remember the characters' names...

What was the point of Laura Linney's storyline? They didn't even conclude it (like they did everyone elses). Is hers the only life that sucked at the end?

How could Keira Knightley, playing a married girl, randomly kiss that guy?

How ugly was that necklace that Alan Rickman bought?

And did you not cry when the little kid was running through the airport? AHHHHHH!!!

Some of the relationships don't work out for the best in the movie--I don't want to give away anything, but Emma's marriage is also one of the sad endings in the movie along with Laura's. I agree that they could have done a little more at the end with Laura's character--to not leave her out of the final scene. But, seeing how the film tried to give a wider range of relationships, it made sense and seemed kind of appropriate--and she chose her brother over relationships.

Don't some married people do things they shouldn't? =)

It was an ugly necklace!

The kid was awesome.

>> It definately made me want to go back to England >>

Lol. Do you think love is coming your way in England? Why do you think the guy went to Winsonsin to find sex?! To be fair, the film is a great publicity boost for our capital, I knew loads of the locations.. it's like when I came back from New York I purposely watched Home Alone 2 to point places out!

Madame X - I agree with all your points. That necklace was $460 and it sucked. I think the Laura Linney thing though was to show that no matter how much he hurt her she just had to go on in the name of .. love.

Personally I thought the worst storyline was the Colin Firth one.. it was badly written (the language jokes in the lake were dumb) and she wasn't that great looking anyway.. I think he must have been mesmirised by her body!

I read in all reviews about there being too many storylines but I thought it worked really well, for example, I didn't want to see much more of the porn actors cos they weren't interesting or anymore of the devoted sister to her brother cos it was sad or anymore of the old rock star because he was too samey.

Oh, and a great British thing was the real famous people in it - Ant and Dec, Parky, Dr Fox.. I don't think you'll have heard of those people?? They're TV/radio presenters.

I preferred Notting Hill to be honest, I laughed much more.

Jake.

JakeB, I have to disagree. I think the girl Colin Firth falls for is so adoreable... She's not pretty in a conventional way, but she is definitely cute. I thought that was one of the best storylines, actually.

Nothing much to add besides that I, too, was bummed that Laura Linney's character didn't get some sort of closure. It was a nice story and a sympathetic character that was left hanging!
Oh and yeah, that boy was adoreable but so was his father.... hehe.

I have always loved Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman so I was happy for every moment they were on the screen.. And..

*SPOILER*

*SPOILER*

*SPOILER*

Didn't you find Emma's scene in the bedroom simply heartbreaking? It was so incredibly beliveable and sad....

Jake...
I just think it was seeing all of those London locations so beautifully shot that made me long to go back. Plus I've never been there during Christmas.

As far as Laura Linney. I don't care if God himself was calling me on my cell...I would not have gotten out of bed with THAT man!

I love the fact that they showed all aspects of love - in real life, most love stories don't have a fairy tale ending like most movies and I love that this movie showed that.

I saw this movie last night and loved it! I left with the biggets smile on my face. I could have done without a couple of the storylines - the guy who went to Wisconsin and the porn people. I would have liked to see more of Hugh Grant (homina homina...) and Colin Firth (growling noises...) and wanted a bit more on the storyline with Kiera Knightly. But overall I'd see it again and I'll probably be buying it. It has a great soundtrack as well!

re: Laura Linney and that man - YOU SAID IT ERIKJ972!!!!!

Did the theaters you guys saw the movie in start laughing when Rowan Atkinson turned around, before he even said anything? Love it!

**Spoiler Question** re: the kids - did "Joann" just go back home for xmas or somemthing?

Also wanted to add - I found the final scene w/ Emma/Rick/kids terribly heartbreaking b/c that's real life...

I think Joann came back to England to visit him. What I was confused about was where was Emma Thomaosn husband coming back from at the end of the movie?!

Ah, the reason this was in is because the guy who played him is very famous over here.. everyone loves him. Just like everyone laughed when Rowan Atkinson turned around.. everyone laughed at him. He's great.

I agree with Master, but I thought Hugh's cheek-shaking dance number owed a certain debt to Kevin Klein's solo turn in IN AND OUT--which was designed to tell us about that character's inner dancing queen. Either Hugh has been around, or his choreographer was winking at the audience.

SPOILER: As for the Laura L character -- why, why, why would her poor brother be given 24/7 cell phone privileges in a bin, and be allowed to be ALONE with his sister if he was violent?! Sorry folks, I love Laura in anything, but there were logic holes there that made her stoic plight hard to buy.

MasterLCZ:

Thats not what I meant. I meant in the sense that every story didn't end in a fairy tale ending. It should that love does come with heartbreak.

I really loved this movie. The last movie I saw in the theater before this one was Once Upon a Time In Mexico, so that was a jump. By the way robyn525600, watch your back because Colin Firth and I are gonna get it on! LoL

"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
