It can be an object that's supposed to resemble the main character. For example, Elphaba as a baby when she came out of the women... (Maybe not the best example, but you get it.)
Mine would be The Lion King (Simba) and Galinda.
"Hey, you! You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!"
-Family Guy
Don't kill me for this, but I love Wicked's when Elphabab come in in Dear Old Shiz. I love how she comes running in and looks around to the theatre.
And DRS's fro John Lithgow is very well done.
And Sherie Rene Scott's.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
wonderfulwizard, i have to agree. i used to get goosebumps everytime i saw elphaba's entrance, and even now when i listen to the cast recording, i love it!
i also love victoria clark's entrace in LITP...she has such an incredible presence that watching her walk up the stage is a very powerful few moments.
The best all time has to be Peter in Peter Pan, getting to fly in through the window. The way that scene is done, with the music and the window blowing open is so magical.
My other favorites include Velma in Chicago, Mama Rose, Dolly Levi, and Mame Dennis.
Edna's entrance in Hairspray's "You Can't Stop the Beat" when she comes out of the giant hairspray can. --Definitely one of the best of modern theatre.
Velma Kelly's entrance in Chicago and Mama Rose's entrance...I've heard Annie Oakley's entrance in Annie Get Your Gun is supposed to be awesome too, never seen the show though.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Roxie runs on and around the stage with Fred Casely right when the ensemble comes in with Velma on JAZZZZZZ. And Fred goes "Listen your husband aint home is he?" And Velma responds "No! her husband is not at home!"
Then they go away for a while. Enter again. Exchange some dialogue, then Roxie shoots Casey, and she says "I Gotta Pee", and runs off the stage - right before the song's big finale.
The lights dim...with a single spotlight on the piano onstage...the lights dim again...in the dark, a figure bounds onstage, with only a flash of white towel ( around his neck) to hint at his entrance...the orchestra hits the single note - heralding the start of the show...
The lights are back...and Hugh Jackman, the Boy from Oz (aka Peter Allen), starts another evening of pure entertainment! Updated On: 9/5/05 at 10:49 PM
For some reason I really liked Jeff Goldblum's in The Pillowman. Right when he goes in he tells Katurian (Billy) how stupid he looks. lololol. I also loved Sherie's in DRS. "oh, that's me!" lol.
