Getting Married Today

All it takes is a smart actress who gets it. It is the only part of Company that works consistently no matter what the rest of the production is like.

I'll be floating

With the other garbage.
I'm not well."

I must agree with "Getting Married Today." Alice Ripley brought the house down with that song at the Kennedy Center production of COMPANY as couple years ago.

I forgot about every single song from 'Rocky Horror,' particularly 'Eddie's Teddy,'Swords of Damocles,' and 'Sweet Transvestite.' Also 'Timewarp,' but you have to see it performed to see why it's funny.

Not necessarily the absolute funniest, but good, hearty smiles:

Gotta Getta Gimmick (sp?) (Gypsy)
Dressing Them Up (Kiss of the Spider Woman)
Gotta Loada Toad (A Year w/ Frog & Toad)
Take Me To The Church on Time (My Fair Lady)
The one from Barnum that starts "Quite a lotta/Roman terra cotta...)
Adelaide's Lament (Guys & Dolls)
Arkansas (Big River)

I walked to college the other day and was laughing very hard to the first act of Jerry Springer the Opera. I hate to rabbit on about this but it really is just so funny, especially Talk to the Hand and the final song.. "Jews and blacks'll go to Hell" sing the Klu Klux Klan. It's funny in the same way as The Producers, though perhaps much more shock value at Jerry.

Other than that - Stars and the Moon from Songs for a New World.

Barnum song you are quoting is called "The Museum Song"

As for me, one of the best "theater" comedy songs has to be David Friedmans "My Simple Wish"

* "Keep it Gay" from THE PRODUCERS
* "Springtime for Hitler" from THE PRODUCERS
* "Mama Says" from FOOTLOOSE (so sue me...Willard is the only bright spot in an otherwise bland show)
* "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" from AVENUE Q
* "Bless the Lord My Soul" from BAT BOY (this is mostly because of how it was acted)
* "Run Freedom, Run" from URINETOWN (again, because of staging. Love it when Bobby "heals" Becky Two Shoes)
* "Don't be the Bunny" from URINETOWN

"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

A LITTLE PRIEST - Sweeney Todd
TO KEEP MY LOVE ALIVE - A Connecticut Yankee
EVERYBODY'S GIRL - Steel Pier
HE AND SHE - The Boys From Syracuse
GEE, OFFICER KRUPKE - West Side Story
WE'RE GONNA BE ALRIGHT - Do I Hear A Waltz?
GETTING MARRIED TODAY - Company

"Agony" (and the reprise of course) from Into the Woods.

Oh and Urinetown, I love the part in "Mr. Cladwell" when Hope sings "Daaaaaaaa, Da-da, da-da, Daaaaaddddy! THAT'S MY DAD!" It cracks me up. I'm really easily amused.

'Candide' takes the cake for me when it comes to humour + wit.
From 'Oh, Happy We!' to 'Glitter + Be Gay' to the ode to syphllis in the 'Auto-Da-Fe' (Oh my darling Paquette, She is haunting me yet with a dear souvenir I shall never forget.....").
As well, I guess it doesn't hurt for the lyrics to be attached to that top-drawer score.
