The timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge comes to thrilling new life as Tony Award® winner Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, Gentleman’s Guide…) plays over 50 roles in a virtuosic, master class of a performance that must be seen to be believed. This theatrical achievement comes from the haunting and hope-filled vision of one of Broadway’s most imaginative directors, Michael Arden (Tony-winning Best Revival – Once on This Island).
Previews began on November 8 at the Nederlander Theatre prior to an opening on November 21. The limited run is currently set to conclude on January 1, 2023.
Like I admit I’m a sucker for any version of a Christmas carol but god as a designer this production is visually so magical. Obviously Mayes is stellar as always. There’s some really masterful stagecraft going on here and I encourage all to go see it for some Christmas spirit.
Saw it tonight. Really enjoyed it. At times Mays is speaking at lightning speed but if you know the story, as we all do, it really isn't a problem.
Not for young kids. The two sitting behind me got very fidgety 5 minutes in and the entire family left aboyt an hour in. (Which I was fine with as one of the kids was kicking my seat and then my shoulder. I was sitting upstairs)
Loved every bit of all of the Sufjan Stevens music used in the show and it sounded wonderful coming out of those speakers.
I left literally choked up with the holiday spirit.
