The third Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder’s classic The Skin of Our Teeth begins previews tomorrow night at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, prior to an April 25 opening night. This adaptation includes additional material by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and is directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz. The principal cast includes Gabby Beans, Paige Gilbert, Priscilla Lopez, James Vincent Meredith, Julian Robertson, and Roslyn Ruff. The play will run for a limited engagement through May 29.

“In the 5,000 years they’ve been married, George and Maggie Antrobus have survived wars, plagues, floods, and everything in between. Now they’re running low on food – and a massive glacier is headed toward their New Jersey home. An epic, timely comedy about the endurance of human spirit, Thornton Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth follows one ‘everyfamily’ through the great struggles and triumphs of the human experience. Led by innovative director Lileana Blain-Cruz in a production that speaks directly to our current moment, this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic with additional material by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is a profound reminder that life is always worth living – no matter how difficult things get.”

Who’s going?

While it didn’t make the roster for my late April trip, this is the one I’m most curious to read preview reactions about.

Won the lottery for tomorrow night.

SIDE ORCH LEFT, Row H, Seats 101 & 102. Which looks pretty good from the seating chart.

Feel like I got similar lottery seats, or rush maybe? it feels like so long ago, to The Great Society when it was on.

Pretty excited to see this one, going to American Buffalo tonight. Should be an intersting combo.

Was anyone at the first preview last night? If so, how was it?

UPDATE: Sorry, I mistakenly didn't realize that previews actually begin tonight.

What do we think of the Best Revival of a Play race at the Tonys this year? As of tonight, all contenders will have started previews. Eligible shows [edited] are:

Macbeth
Skin of Our Teeth
for colored girls...
How I Learned To Drive
American Buffalo
Take Me Out
Plaza Suite
Trouble In Mind
Lackawanna Blues

Skin could be an ambitious "prestige" choice, if it's good. Trouble In Mind or For Colored Girls would be historic (though I didn't think Trouble was a great production). American Buffalo or How I Learned could be down-the-middle choices, since by all accounts they are well acted and designed.

Was anyone there tonight? Running time is 3 hours, with both a brief pause and an intermission.

This is such an interesting play. The synopsis is bonkers and now seeing the set, I'm even more confused. Can't wait to hear thoughts.

I really admire LCT for producing a play with 28 onstage characters and no stars. That's so rare for a Broadway play, but it's exactly the type of work that a well-funded nonprofit like LCT should be doing.

I'm pretty much expecting this to take a bath, financially, but hopefully it will be an "honorable" financial flop and a great start to Cruz's Bway directing career.

You left out a word from the Lincoln Center Theatre page. "Running Time: Approximately 3 hours, with one brief pause and one intermission."

Do you know what APPROXIMATELY mean? The production had its First Preview. The running time could change between now and opening night.

More interested in the brief pause. Sounds like something they did in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf two years ago?
