Was a little sad to have missed Groff in the show, but I am now more excited to get to see Jeremy next month! Sounds like he's a perfect Seymour ---- hoping for an official release of his Suddenly Seymour too!!!
First show tonight. Alan Mencken and Jonathan Groff in audience. Jeremy did great job. Very animated. Reminded me of Rick Moranis alot. Others said same. Audience was pumped with applause, especially during Jordan & Blanchard long kiss. Cast was pumped too.
Bar area has your favorite drink as long as it's Poland Spring water. That's all they had.
A few folks waited at stage door, but rain didn't help. Clearly Jorden owned the role tonight. No stage acknowledgments from Mencken, et al. Just standard curtain call where they freak if u take pix even then.
Saw the show this afternoon and the magnetic energy from when it first opened is definitely not there.
Jeremy Jordan was… fine. He gives a very by the numbers performance. He’s in excellent voice and is funny but there wasn’t anything particularly special about him.
I know most disagree, but the reason to see this revival is Tammy Blanchard’s incredible performance as Audrey. She plays her so sad, so broken. Her Somewhere That’s Great made me cry. I can’t remember if she played Suddenly, Seymour this way preciously, but this afternoon she was crying during her solo, very fidgety and unsure. And then finally when they started singing together she was so joyful. I felt that. Her last scene is clunky (not her fault, the dialogue is pretty bad) but other than that she is giving an incredible performance.
