if anyone lives in the pittsburgh/cleveland/detroit/northern ohio area, there's a great new production of Clue playing at the Cleveland Playhouse.   it's so good that after seeing it last weekend, i'm going back on sat night to see it again, and traveling a great distance, several hundred miles even.   The show is based on the cult film/board game, but it has been retooled with new material since its last theatrical productions, which weren't all that well reviewed.   this one is a play, but has lots of spooky theme music, and unfolds very much like a musical - it's a winner there is enough movement where the show almost seems like it has a choreographer.  John Tracey Egan has comic timing as the misguided bumbling Col Mustard, but the other cast includes broadway veterans like Donna English, Michael Kostroff, and of course the super talented kathy fitzgerald, who plays a character who seem to be chronically inerbriated.   Alex Mandell shines as a government agent/ Washington bureaucrat character, kind of like an Inspector Gadget type.   the entire cast is fantastic.   if you like Ken Ludwig and Joe DePietro shows, the show kind of has elements of their work intertwined throughout - mistaken identities, plot twists, bumbling investigators, dimwitted socialites.     has anyone else seen it?   Did you like it?   I've never seen the film or seen any of its other prior productions, so i don't really know how to compare it.    i thought i saw on the website it's planning  a tour soon.  Work Life production is affiliated with the show, and i know they helm a lot of non union tours.   This one should definitely be a equity tour, it's worth it.

I didn’t see it at Cleveland Playhouse but I didn’t care for the adaptation. All of the new material stuck out and didn’t feel like it belonged with the rest of the material from the film.

So does this mean the other CLUE musical is no longer allowed to be licensed? I imagine this being similar to a MISERY-type situation where there are two different versions and the Simon Moore version isn't allowed to be performed anymore.

This version is just a play based on the film and not a musical. The musical version which is not based on the film is still available to license from Concord Theatricals.
