Hey all! So sadly, I have never, ever, seen Les Miserables. I am lucky that that is going to change this week as I see the tour in Boston. Other than the famous music, Im surprisingly somewhat unfamiliar with the show. Any specific reading I should do about the French Revolution that may help with the show? Thanks in advance to all!
Scripps is correct. Its not THE French Revolution, but rather A French revolution. They had a number of them.
But the blurb that is usually in the program is more than enough

Dont be too hard on yourself, Mike. LOTS of people think it's the French Revolution. Enjoy.

PBS just started a brand new Les Mis 6 week mini series last night. I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty well done so I'm going to watch the rest and then try to catch the tour during my July trip to Chicago. I believe the first episode is available for streaming for free. This was my very first Broadway show as a kid so it's been a long time since I've been exposed to this material.
The first time I saw Les Miserables, I struggled to keep the characters straight in my head. There are a LOT of them, and for some reason their names don't make it easy to remember who they are or their relationship to one another. To this day, when someone mentions Fantine or Cosette, I have to think for a minute to be certain which is the mother and which is the child.
