I know there is allot of buzz around me Hangman, but I'm wondering about this other new production at the Atlantic Theatre Company. I really liked some of the work I have seen in the past at the Stage Two space and the early word from ShowScore looks promising.

Reports are appreciated as always

I'll be there Saturday night and will report back!

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Wow, I loved loved this one. Terrific performances from all on a minimalist set that manages to suggest an African village teaming with life and a grand house. The main character, Kelechi, is wonderfully played by a young woman named Mfoniso Udofia, whose name may be familiar to NYTW theatergoers who saw two of her own plays, Sojouner and Her Portmanteau, produced recently. Talk about talent! And the ensemble members function quite well as minor characters and also provide the heartbeat of the village. They perform quite a few songs too. The music provides much depth and atmosphere for the proceedings.

My only criticism is that the flashbacks were a bit subtle, and it look me a while to figure out I was watching younger versions of the characters. But I got used to that and started to pick up faster on the clues, such as the Nigerian accent the main character had in the past but has since lost after living in the United States for 15 years.

Pieces of the story, including details of the pivotal event, are effectively revealed, and the identities of the characters become clear. We come to understand the motivation of the main character for both leaving Nigeria and her eventual return, and we see her growth. Great ending too. I highly recommend this one.
