2018 Chess Revival at the Coliseum in London.

Directed by Rice and Connor, the latter whose work I cannot abide. 

 

However, I love the opportunity to see this show on such a grand scale.

I would like to see this on a grand scale too (haven’t seen it on a grand scale since 1990 or 1991 - can’t quite remember!)

However, I’m not sure how ‘grand scale’ this production will be. The ENO charges a fortune for tickets for its limited runs (as this is) and the productions of Sweeney Todd, Sunset Boulevard and Carousel were all semi-staged (and billed as such!)

The focus will be on the orchestra, the music and the performers, I think - more than the staging of the show itself (if you see what I mean!)

I will wait for casting to be announced before deciding whether to spend a fortune on a ticket!

I agree, I saw Sunset. I'm hoping for a great sound. I think Chess should lend itself to minimal staging easier than the ENO's previous musicals. 

I just hope Connor doesn't destroy it.

This revival seems redundant to me; there's already been a "concert" version of Chess.

The Kennedy Center is doing a semi-staged production of Chess next spring, for a series they’re starting in the mold of City Center Encores! I’m excited to see what they’ll do with it.

I have tickets to this and can’t wait to hear who’s attached (director, orchestrations, performers). You’d think they’d announce soon!

My friend and I are already talking about a London trip to see the ENO production.
