Not sure if there's already been a thread on the vacation covers in this show, but in addition to Lisa Brescia who recently joined the cast (and went on for Jennifer Laura Thompson last week), Bradley Dean and Mallory Bechtel joined the cast this week, covering Michael Park and Laura Dreyfuss.

Do vacation covers still get paid when they aren't needed?

Yes, it's essentially the same as an offstage standby.

If Mallory was needed, would she actually go on for Zoe, or would she go on for Alana? When Kristolyn was on vacation, Olivia covered her the whole week except for one show when Laura missed. She switched to Zoe, and the vacation swing covered Alana. Since it's actually Laura who's scheduled out this week, would Mallory go on for Zoe and Olivia for Alana if Kristolyn had to miss? It just seems like Alana is a much easier role to prep.

If Mallory is only covering Zoe, I don't think she would go on for Alana, even though it is an easier role. Also, where is the announcement that Mallory joined the cast? I couldn't find it on any of her social media though I may have missed it

Olivia went on as Zoe last night. I don't know anything about the rest of the schedule.

No, only for the weeks they perform or are required to be at/in the vicinity of the theater. They also wouldn't appear on the cast board unless they're working at that time.

Wrong. If you don't know the answer to a question, don't make one up.

I think EG meant what you referred to in your answer: the requirement to be at/in the vicinity of the theater. Assuming vacation covers do have to be in the vicinity of the theater during the relevant vacation week, even if the usual standby is able to cover for the whole vacation, the vacation cover would still get paid for that week despite not going on? Is that correct?

If they were hired as a vacation standby, then yes. A typical vacation cover is only hired for a week or two at a time, then they go back to temping/catering/whatever.
