After seeing it at The Public in summer 2014 I cannot tell you just how p.o.-ed I am that American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco dropped it from their season. Perhaps it will be staged at the newly reopened Curran theatre soonish.
I didn't find any of the music interesting and the staging at the Public felt cumbersome. But I'm curious how they've transformed it into a proscenium show.
I saw it at The Public. Not sure how they would do it on Broadway and still keep it fun (crowd dancing along). It was fun to be in a small space psudo nightclub thing. I think it might lose something. If they could get Studio 54 it might work there, like the good old daze, dancing on the main floor, sex in the balcony. Not sure if Roundabout would give up the space for it.
bumping this because there was a rumor during the Seattle run about a possible Broadway transfer next spring. has anyone heard anything more (or have any thoughts, opinions, or speculations)?

I (and other Filipino-Americans I've discussed this with) feel that the show spends a bit too much time humanizing Imelda (Ferdinand not so much), as it emphasizes that she does a lot of things "for love." That said, we (myself and others I've spoke with) don't think the Marcoses are shown in a positive light. Unless people disregard everything negative the show portrays and focus on the humanization bits, which is a concern. There are differing opinions though, as expected with the subject matter of the show and the way it is presented & interpreted.
