Anybody know if we're getting a cast recording of the On the Twentieth Century revival? Saw the show a few days ago and would love for Kristin's interpretation of this role to be immortalized.
I think it's highly likely (most of Roundabout's revivals get recorded) but who knows as other's been no word. I'd be sad if there wasn't, it would be nice to have another recording of the score with the stuff they cut from the OBC.
I would be glad to have a new recording of this great score, if not just for Kristen (and the entire company, all having the time of their lives it seems with this truffle of a musical) but for the reason that the OBC sounds terribly mixed to my audiophile ears. Voices that sit very artificially on top of a flatly-mixed orchestra and very poor balance across the recording.
But the OBC does have wonderful performances. Hopefully a new one will do the audio justice so it's more pleasurable to listen to on a good stereo system.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
I'm so thrilled for this recording! I've longed for another cast album for years, and this cast is terrific. I wonder how soon they'll be releasing it, I'd love to buy it and have them sign the booklet when I see the show late May.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
They absolutely MUST augment the theatre orchestra for the recording as it sounds terribly thin and disappointing. Glad that Kristin's superb performance will be captured and hopefully the complete score.
"Your eyes..... they shine like the pants on my blue serge suit"
After looking at clips of Kristin Chenoweth in ON THE 20TH CENTURY, I can start to imagine why she's been getting the raves, she is insanely talented just like Madeline Kahn before her. I can't wait for the recordings for this and THE KING AND I.
NoName3- That makes sense that he was out before the recording, because other than singing in the show he is on vocal rest and is not supposed to talk. I wonder if he will be out after, too?
Was at the show Sunday and Mr. Gallagher was, indeed, out. Resting up for the recording I guess, but still a disappointment. Kristen owns the show and she is the reason for the revival. She had more chemistry with Mr. Karl than the replacement male lead. Loved the singing/dancing porters. The show felt like a long Carol Burnett skit done very well.
