The original set change (and truly the only set change from the whole installation aside from some moving pieces) had the back of the moon backdrop serving as the floor of the ship. When the song started the backdrop began opening from top to bottom to reveal the ship as in a pop-up book. It was crazy.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Just an interesting idea for if the show ever came to Broadway...
I was trying to think of some stunt casting that could be done for the show. I think the most obvious choices would be Grizabella and Old Deuteronomy. But then I started thinking...how possible do you think it would be to bring in So You Think You Can Dance winners/contestants for some of the ensemble roles? I know some of them can even sing, but even so, there are some ensemble dancing roles I think could work.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
If it ever did come back to Broadway, I wonder if a big name like Aretha Franklin or Jennifer Holliday would join as Grizabella. That'd make for an interesting "Memory".

I would prefer to never see Jennifer Holliday sing... ever again. Not only has she lost any control in that voice she is TERRIFYING to look at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQD4nZjWZmw
The Associated Press reports that Lloyd Webber will re-conceive the character of Rum Tum Tugger as a rapping street cat. "I've come to the conclusion that ... maybe Eliot was the inventor of rap," he said, referencing poet T.S. Eliot. Source
^Mine too. He's clearly become a bit senile in his old age and I wish he would stick to casting actors on campy reality competition programs and leave his past shows alone.
A friend's trying to get me to see the show with her (she's a costume design student, which I think is the main reason that she wants to see it), and I was already reluctant, but this whole rapping thing just made me die inside a little.
I know there's a rap in "Starlight Express." Trying to imagine that style of music filtered again through Lord Andrew and paired with the Rum Tum Tugger's lyrics is something very unpleasant to me.
