There was actually a radio play from about 4 years ago that told the Sound of Music/von Trapp family story from Princess Yvonne's point of view, who was the woman that inspired the character of the Baroness. It is called The Von Trapps and Me. It was actually really good and made you feel bad for the woman Captain von Trapp jilted to marry Maria.
Maybe the story is told in flashbacks. Judi Dench is seen standing on the balcony of a Swiss chalet. There is a look of longing on her face for her Austrian homeland.
