Hi guys.

I know its ages off, but i'm just thinking ahead so I can plan a little bit. Coming to NY for new years with my partner and I was wondering roughly what the general rule of thumb performance schedule wise it was for new years eve onwards?

New Years Eve pretty much all shows just have matinees. New Years Day there are usually very few shows that perform and the schedule can be a bit mixed up for the few days following. If you do a google search for Broadway Show Holiday Schedule, you'll find previous years schedules that will give you a better idea.

We went to a show on New Years day last year. It was not too bad getting in and out of Times Square.

New Years Day isn't bad but the night before is impossible. That's why there are no shows.

I attended the December 31, 2005 New Year Eve matinee performance of Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. As we were getting out of the show the police decided to empty Times Square and then allow people back in. Of course this meant everyone filled the side streets where the theatres are. It was a mob scene.

IF you attend a New Year Eve performance plan to leave the theatre in the direction heading AWAY from Times Square. There is no way you will walk through Times Square.

We were lucky because we were on the side of Times Square that we wanted to be on.

I was in NY for New Year's Eve and day a few years ago. I saw a matinee of "A Little Night Music," then booked it to the East Side. Bonnie Langford gave a solo concert in a small venue - I can't recall exactly where -but it was a great time and a wonderful way to enjoy some theater on NYE and avoid the craziness. Restaraunts were open and eveerything. If you look, you can probably find a NYE concert or something far away from Times Square.
