Oh not because I think the actors will be sub-par, but non-equity tours tend to be seriously downgraded and almost like an infant version of the Broadway show they're based on. The production value just usually isn't up there with equity tours because the funding is so much less.
Well, very often all aspects of non-equity are sub par.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I thought the non-eq tour of Spring Awakening was one of the best productions of the show I've seen (out of the second Broadway cast and both casts of the Equity tour).
Granted, Spring Awakening is a show with much simpler staging and one whose source material I think is stronger than CMIYC's. But my point is that there can be really good non-Eq tours.
I didn't get to see the non-equity tour of Spring Awakening. I've heard it was great, although I loved the first Nat'l tour and the original Broadway cast.
I also felt like the Non-Equity tours of RENT (particularly the casts) were often better than what was showing on Broadway. I don't know enough about "Catch Me.." to speculate whether this's out this though. How often does a show go Non-Equity straight away?
Not initially, but Troika has been picking up national tours, closing the equity productions, and then bringing in a new non-eq company more and more recently.
I think their Sister Act tour will also be non-eq, but correct me if I’m wrong.
I don't know how much they can minimize Catch Me's set since the Broadway set was basically just the bandstand with some flyins and tables. I think they mainly just going to probably cut the number in the pit in half, as well as the chorus in half since they weren't that essential.
To not see a show or bash it for being non-equity is pretty harsh. The non-equity tour of AIDA was amazing. I saw it in College Station, TX and the talent rivaled that of the equity tour I saw in Houston, TX. The equity tour had better scenic design and more "special effects," but that doesn't make the show. Both productions were stellar. Also, Im happy to see that this tour is playing in places such as Orange, TX. To drive into a city is quite an undertaking for those theater patrons, as they are about 2.5 hours from Houston, TX and 3.5 hours from New Orleans, LA. Lastly, are we sure this is a non-equity tour? I mean Broadway Across America is who is bringing the show into Houston, TX, and I cant say that Ive ever known them to bring in non-equity shows. I guess there is a first for everything?
Catch Me is definitely a non-equity tour. And personally, non-equity tours tend to get swallowed in big theatres like The Pantages, which is where I would see it. I'm not questioning the talent of the actors performing, but if I'm paying to see a show that's supposed to be like the Broadway production, I want it to look like the Broadway production as much as possible. You just don't get that with non-equity tours.
Kyle is an equity actor. I'm not completely sure but I don't think he would do a non-equity tour for that reason. He wouldn't be paid what he normally would be. And I don't know if equity actors can do non-equity projects.

Equity can absolutely not do Non Equity tours. But I really love Kyle Riabko...sigh, that would have been incredible.

"The only thing is that an equity actor has to accept the pay cut and more difficult working schedule."
That's not the only thing. That's actually totally wrong. An Equity actor is forbidden from doing a non-Equity tour. Period.
"I'm also assuming that the Broadway creative team (director, choreography, etc.) will not be involved in this tour. Does anyone know about that?"
They're all billed on the tour website, so they are involved -- whether they will actually work on the show, or let their assistants mount it, who knows, but it will be their production, it seems.
